I did a search and read adnausium. From what I gathered, not all diff. locks will fit a Dana 80 w/3. 54 gears. At least not the ARB locker so it seems.

I am looking for some feedback, comments, and experiences from folks who have them installed. From what I read, the ARB is the strongest, followed by Detroit Locker, and then Lock Rite. I would have no idea.

I want the strongest possible locker that behaves well with normal driving and towing, especially smoothness if such a thing is possible especially . Sure would appreciate any help and guidance to get started in the right direction.

So far I have been OK off road by switching to 4 HI or LO. Would be nice to not have to do this all the time. Thanks for any replies.

If you go to Reider Racing they have one called the No-Slip that will fit and is supposed to be good. They said that it was smooth.

After looking around... ... ... ... WOW!!!!!! I am in sticker shock. I am gonna have to rethink the diff. lock issue. Seems like the ARB locker is about the only locker that is compatable and suitable for use towing. I'm going to have to take a closer look at whether I really need one that bad vs. how practical vs. cost justification.

How about the factory 'no-slip' unit? If your after more locking, just change the order of the friction plates. You can dial in as much anti-slip as you want.

I thought the axle came with the limited slip unit but after I took it to the dealer to verify, it is an open rear diff. I bought the truck off the lot through the Internet so that is the way I had to take it. So I am looking into a diff locking device that is suitable for use with frequent towing and off road which so far appears to be the ARB locker. I'm in no hurry at that price and will keep looking and comparing. Maybe even an axle swap.

I've had an ARB in the front and a Detroit in the rear of my Jeep since the mid 90's and have beat them hard! They are both super units. I did get rid of all the wiring and relays and stuff from the ARB, they were the only problems i had. You can't wrong with either.

I spoke with Barney at Reider Racing today over the phone. He was VERY knowledgable as well as helpful. Looks like the only choice I have is the Dana Trac-Loc for the usage I put the truck through. With I Detroit or Loc-Rite type locker, I would end up breaking something and is not very practical in towing applications. Thanks for the replies.
