I am currently located in Wichita Falls for about 4 months, and opted for a quick trip to Dallas for some geocaching (http://www.geocaching.com) as a way to kill the weekend. As I was driving around, looking for sites & checking out the city, I happen to notice this GMC bearing down on me. I signaled and got in the right lane (currently in the middle on the highway, which, I don’t know) at the same time he got in the lane to the left of me. So now there was a lane between us. As he was blowing past me I was thinking “man, my truck is LOUD”! As I looked at his truck as he was passing me, it hit me, Duh! That super ugly light design on the HD’s ( big middle one) by the way, what the heck was GM thinking?? The next thing that caught my eye was the 2500 CC badge, oh ya, game on. By this time, the guy is at least a truck length in front of and pulling away. With a quick glance to ensure that there were no police around, made sure the radar detector was on full blast, I nailed it. Ahhhh ya, there is nothing like the sweet sound of the turbo singing in your ear as you watch the smoke billow out of the exhaust as the gauges are climbing and all the while feeling it in the seat of the pants… In no time at all, I was literally 5’ off this guy’s bumper at over 95mph. It reminded me of the part of Days of Thunder when Tom Cruise get hit in the rear end, I was thinking “rubbing is racing”

Now, before I get too much further into this story, I must tell you a couple things about my truck. Although I’ve got the TST plate, I never made any of the star wheel mods and or relocated the assembly for the other improvements that it will allow. Why? So the trans would hold up better (I hope) and so when I feel like there isn’t enough from the truck any more, I can make those changes for a free upgrade.

Back to the story. I was sticking to his bumper, and opted to show him what my CTD could do. I know there wasn’t much more in her, but tried for it anyway. There was traffic coming up in front of us, and only his lane was open. Not only this, but my exit was in about ¾ of a mile. I hit it again, and pulled out into the lane next to us, and started for the pass. Unfortunately I ran out of terra-ferma before traffic showed up, I let off the gas, and fell back in behind him. By this time my exit was about 3/10 of a mile away, traffic was clear and I hit it again, started passing him and had to take my exit. Little did I know, but the exit was marked 35mph, and I was over 95 mph. Good thing these trucks have antilock, because I was using it! But you folks understand, I had to let him know that I COULD pass him!

Later in the day, I got to do some streetlight shoot outs with a Ford PSD. That was for only 3 blocks, but still fun. I’m very impressed with these trucks and what they can do.

Later,

Corey

It's times like that when you need 800 T/Q and a gear to run 140, Good story sounded like alot of fun except for the exit, nice having alot of weight and big brakes.

Before the fun killers show up.......

Sounds like a blast. I assume since you were right behind him doing 95 he was in on the race ;) I can't get anyone around here to play with me. I'm starting to wish I hadn't mounted the gauges on the A pillar. It seems to have a negative effect on other diesels. There was this one time, however, when I was driving the 2wd Ram which is now my wife's truck. I was driving down the main 4 lane street in town on a Sunday morning on my way to church  Oh, well... ok, I was coming back from an emergency run to the parts store as I was messing with the truck yet again  So I'm minding my own business when I look in my mirror and here comes this guy in a 6. 5 Chevy dually. Thinking him unworthy of further notice I continue on. Next thing I know, he pulls up beside me and kind of gooses it. I look over and he has his girl with him and they're looking in a way you can tell he just got done doing some serious bragging to her about how his truck runs. He gooses it again and jumps about 1/2 length before I punch it... ... ..... BAM :p I did look in my mirror as I smoked past him. I couldn't really read the look on his face but his girl was about to fall on the floor of the truck laughing. I dunno why but he wouldn't pull beside me anymore :D

Now I'll step aside so everyone can come on here and lecture you about your unsafe driving practices

I'll get a story up here one day...

I have a little story though. .

About 2-3 months ago I was driving down a popular street in town, (4 lane and middle turning lane) I was eyeing this PSD 4-door long bed F-350 4wd automatic. He had the Banks system, complete with exhaust. . well I had my gauges but my engine was completely stock. We started blipping the throttle,, I was in 3rd gear at 2,100RPM, I went WOT, and he went WOT, well, he left me wayyyyyy behind,, he must have been doing 50-60,, (70??)MPH before I even could shift out of 3rd gear. He was about 5-6 truck lengths in front of me.

Of course, the story would be WAY different now,, and I still have more money left in my Pocket than he does :)

Now 3rd gear is a gear you have to hold onto the steering wheel. and watch out for traffic. It's FAST :)

P. S. Just waitin' to tango with a PSD or D-Max.

I agree, when other diesels see even the slightest hint of smoke... . then the guages on the pillar... most of them don't want to play. So I just decided to start racing cameros and firebirds:D

Only once has any other truck wanted to play with me, and it was a few days ago on the freeway... some guy in a shiny new Ford F350 PSD... course he doesn't decide to do so until traffic gets really heavy, ruining any chance of a run.

I've managed to run with some modified 5. 0 Mustangs (fox body) on the freeway... set the DD UPM to 5/5 and I can keep up with 'em just fine. The big problem is that Bay Area roads are so rough that it's hard to put the power down (even at freeway speeds) without tons of axle hop. I really need that air spring rear suspension...

Rob

(PS: It's spelled CamAro)

How comes every time someone tries to mess with me I always have a load in tow. Was out Friday night when a nice shiney crewcab cheby was taunting me. I would have loved to play but I had my 25' gooseneck and the skid loader and backhoe attachment. I almost punched it but thought better of it since I was having brake problems with the trailer. :( One of these days I will find the unsuspecting PSD or Duralax. :D

The other night I was on my way home, and I guess this little raced out Honda Civic saw my guages and wanted to show how fast his stickers made his car. He is riding my *** and then decides to pass me in the other lane. I saw him signal and get on it, so I layed into her and let the turbo sing. He pulled up to about my door when the turbo spooled up and then it was all over. It was a beautiful sight to see the little guy fade away. Then a layed off to make my exit and he blew by me and reved his 4 cylinders at me. What fun!!!

:) Mine wasn't quite as exciting, but this past Sunday in Belen there was a couple of kids driving daddy's 4wd Suburban on the uphill side of the railroad crossing bridge. When I got beside them, the young driver thought he would get all over his 350 (5. 7L). A little flick of the eyebrows to the wife and a little push on the go-pedal and we went past this kid like he was backing up. My wife looked at me with a smile and said, "That's enough", as I was sitting there with the normal E-E grin. I backed off.

Pretty much the same thing on the up-hill freeway access ramp in Albuquerque last night with a couple of cars and trucks ready to roll except I was alone this time. Nothing but headlights behind me... ... .

Boy, this beast is a blast to drive... ... ... :D :D

Finally met a Duramax pulling a load at the fuel pump. I asked the owner how it was doing. He said it was doing great. Had about 60,000 miles on it. He had a load of large steel pipe.

He said GM replaced the Allison. The transmission pump blew. He said he had been pulling 24,000 lb. load of steel plus the weight of his gooseneck trailer. And for DMAX etc. over on the Chevy site, I DID NOT get his VIN. He said his son owned a Cummins/RAM and it pulled very good also.

i to have been looking for a PSD or new maxipad to test their V8 against my mighty cummins. however i had to settle for a lowered honda civic the other night when i was coming back from hunting. he was tailing me as soon as i got off the interstate then we both got stopped at the first stop light with no one around. so as the light went green we were off and i pulled in front of him when i hit 75. well one a$$ beating wasnt enough so he tries passing me going up a 2 lane curvey hill, well he got his butt kicked once again so he backed off, and i went home smileing, as this was my first "race" with my dodge.

Bandit...

98. 4 12v cummins powered 2500HD, auto, 4x4, light driftwood, ext. cab, leather, upgrade sound system, 10 disc cd changer, 22% tint windows, hard tonneau cover, bed liner, husky liners, 4 michelin p265/75 on 16" american racing rims, also 33x12. 50 dunlops on mopar tims, autometer sport comp, trans temp, pyro, boost, on A-pillar, K&N air filter, cat ran off, DTT-VB, TC soon to follow

Looking at your sig Bandit, you seem to have a stock 12V (I like the '98. 4 part)

I have, err. had, a stock 24V, which in stock trim is faster than a 12V (Generally speaking).

My Dad has a D-Max, and it's purty darn fast comparing both of them stock. Pulls quicker too,, at the expense of MPG.

I am suprised ya beat him, okay, okay, I'm not SUPRISED, but I am a little shocked,, hehe,

If you don't have any power upgrades (BOMBs) not just intake and exhaust work,, the D-Max,, un-loaded,, will be hard to beat, ,especially the Allison Auto's.

Just my experiance with the D-Max.

MerrickNJr

P. S. I just thought up of a reason they/we shorten the name to D-Max instead of Duramax. .

Since our D-Max gets whoohoo bad MPG (Below 10MPG daily loaded) I figured I'll call it D-Max for,, Diesel, Max,, as in,, it takes maximum amount of Diesel to keep it running.
