I am currently located in Wichita Falls for about 4 months, and opted for a quick trip to Dallas for some geocaching (http://www.geocaching.com) as a way to kill the weekend. As I was driving around, looking for sites & checking out the city, I happen to notice this GMC bearing down on me. I signaled and got in the right lane (currently in the middle on the highway, which, I don’t know) at the same time he got in the lane to the left of me. So now there was a lane between us. As he was blowing past me I was thinking “man, my truck is LOUD”! As I looked at his truck as he was passing me, it hit me, Duh! That super ugly light design on the HD’s ( big middle one) by the way, what the heck was GM thinking?? The next thing that caught my eye was the 2500 CC badge, oh ya, game on. By this time, the guy is at least a truck length in front of and pulling away. With a quick glance to ensure that there were no police around, made sure the radar detector was on full blast, I nailed it. Ahhhh ya, there is nothing like the sweet sound of the turbo singing in your ear as you watch the smoke billow out of the exhaust as the gauges are climbing and all the while feeling it in the seat of the pants… In no time at all, I was literally 5’ off this guy’s bumper at over 95mph. It reminded me of the part of Days of Thunder when Tom Cruise get hit in the rear end, I was thinking “rubbing is racing”
Now, before I get too much further into this story, I must tell you a couple things about my truck. Although I’ve got the TST plate, I never made any of the star wheel mods and or relocated the assembly for the other improvements that it will allow. Why? So the trans would hold up better (I hope) and so when I feel like there isn’t enough from the truck any more, I can make those changes for a free upgrade.
Back to the story. I was sticking to his bumper, and opted to show him what my CTD could do. I know there wasn’t much more in her, but tried for it anyway. There was traffic coming up in front of us, and only his lane was open. Not only this, but my exit was in about ¾ of a mile. I hit it again, and pulled out into the lane next to us, and started for the pass. Unfortunately I ran out of terra-ferma before traffic showed up, I let off the gas, and fell back in behind him. By this time my exit was about 3/10 of a mile away, traffic was clear and I hit it again, started passing him and had to take my exit. Little did I know, but the exit was marked 35mph, and I was over 95 mph. Good thing these trucks have antilock, because I was using it! But you folks understand, I had to let him know that I COULD pass him!
Later in the day, I got to do some streetlight shoot outs with a Ford PSD. That was for only 3 blocks, but still fun. I’m very impressed with these trucks and what they can do.
Later,
Corey
