WOW :--) The pump alone makes more power than the VA and 275 injectors do. There is a lot of low end smoke, but boost builds really fast, and with the VA off, boost is now up to 35+ instead of 30. It idles almost exactly like stock, but it does skip under no load from 1200 rpm to 2000 rpm. Not bad though. It also did away with the low rpm shudder under light load that the stock pump had. It holds 1000 rpm coming to a stop, which seems to help the braking, and it does not return to idle as fast between shifts, so that will take some getting used to. So far, I am very impressed.

glad to hear you got her going..... sounds to me like the extra bucks were worth it . . you will have to give us your impressions after a tow

later marcel

I did notice with mine (only had it on there three days) when slowing down it starts (loping) and it makes the truck jump..... not sure how I like that. And it does smoke alot every shift. I think it does take some getting used to. How are your egt's I can get mine hot pretty quickly.

I guess a HRVP-44 is like a smarty, it takes some time to re-learn how to drive. You will get used to it, I know I have with my smarty.

Cheers, John

Yeah Marcel I will be hauling hay with it right off, so I will see how it works for that. EGT's not above 1250 so far, which is what they were before.

JD, mine skips while slowing down, and the pump really doesn't like to let the motor slow down. It will just take some getting used to. Got any pictures of those pulling tractors? I pull with an H and M.

Hey John, if I remember right, you had a 4" straight pipe. Is it any louder than stock inside the cab? We all ought to get together again sometime. Talk to you later.

If you reflash your ECM with a Smarty then the idle will drop some and it may help your jumping. Thanks

Do you think I can attribute my smooth idle to the smarty? I only get a slight lopey sound when coasting to a stop or under very light throttle on level ground.

Well I have done some hauling with the new pump, and I am very impressed. One load GCW was 27,520 lbs, and the pump, with the VA off, makes a noticeable amount more power then adding the VA and injectors. I have only turned the VA on once while pulling, and I could feel a slight decrease in smoothness, but not bad. I really don't think I will be using the VA much any more, except for a boost fooler. The power really comes on quick and very strong. I like it a lot. Ambient temps are cooler now, but egt's seem to be down too, and fuel mileage is up, if anything. I would buy this pump again in a heartbeat. The power, smoothness, and responsiveness is very impressive.

Good post, right now i'm working on the suspension stuff and saving for the Road Armour bumpers, but the HRVP has caught my eye. I had a good chat with Brady when he came up north here(Edmonton)for the NADP Annual August Blackout and it is on the list of future mods----If i stick with my plan i think i may go with BD Twins,II-HRVP/Studs/Smarty(already have) and all the other stuff in my sig and hopefully be set. Thats the plan/idea but it could change. . please keep us posted on the long term results. thanks DW

I am now running an II HRVP with a Smarty & Mach 1. 5's. I'm very pleased. It does take a little learning to control the smoke but it isn't hard. I've only towed li (not over 1k) I'm not having any trouble with egt's & I still get mid 20's on milage at freeway speeds. The only problem I'm having is a tendency to slip the clutch when I go out to pass a slower vehicle.

I just picked one up for $1800 installed. i got it from LA i guess they replace the plungers in it. i cant wiat to get my truck back.

TJ, I think it "clicks" a little more sound-wise, but I thought I could feel a little more vibration through the pedal with my old pump. When I replaced my pump, the rear bracket was broken. It looks like it had been broken when the dealer replaced it the first time, and they did an awful job welding it, so I took it off and welded it up nice. That may have had something to do with it, I don't know.
