Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) My LP is dead

OK now I need to make up my mind. 50 miles from home today the truck started surging big time,I looked at the fuel press. gauge and there it was sitting at 0. Im having a hard time convincing myself to replace my junk LP with another junk LP. Im thinking I should just bite the bullit and buy a FASS or a Preporator system to rid myself of the LP problems.

What do you think?

Depends on your situation. You can get several factory lift pumps for the price of the FASS. Although, the FASS is a great set up and will perform great. I am on my second lift pump and will probably go to the FASS on the next failure.

My LP died 3 weeks ago. I installed a FASS and like all things hope that it works out. My fuel mileaged remained about the same 14miles per gallon. So I installed a chip to day and mileage went up to 18 miles per gallon.

Does the FASS system include all the fuel lines and fittings and everything I will need? Where are the best places to buy the systems. Id like to buy on the internet because its just so much easier for me.

There have been a number of indviduals on TDR that have had good success with simply relocating the lift pump. There is someone out there that sells a kit to do this (if anyone knows who it is please chime in). The theory behind this is that the LP isn't crap; it's the location. If you move it closer to the tank, it will push instead of pull the fuel, which will make it last. I have not had personal experience with this though, just reading what others others have done. Do a search on lift pumps and you will have DAYS of reading.

The FASS comes with all the hoses and fittings that you need. The only problem I had was my tools kept freezing to the ground when I laid them down. The instructions that came with the kit where great. I went to the FASS system because the dealer would not let me put the pump on under warranty. It was going to cost me $180 over warranty cost to have my vehicle towed to town. The week before the dealer charged me $311 for a defroster fan. Said my extended warranty was no good purchased vehicle from different dealer. The next closest dealer is 400 miles away. But any way FASS is a good system just costs allot.

I have spoke to a couple of folks who recommend a " pusher type" of fuel pump between the Lift Pump and the fuel tank. I am putting in a 70 gallon tank and am thinking about one of these "pusher type fuel pumps"- cost about $350 installed. Anyone out there tried this one yet?



2001, 2500, auto trans, 3-guage piller post, fuel pressure guage on steering column, Double Deep tran. pan, BD ehaust brake, 4' exhaust pipe, AFE Cannon filter, Edge chip.

I know electric fuel pumps are much better pushers than pullers, so why wouldnt an in the tank style electric pump be used like most all current gasoline powered vehicles? Being submerged in the fuel in the tank is the best place since the fuel in the tank cools the pump,and it is at the source of fuel doing nothing but pushing fuel not strugling to pull it.

I am one of the many members who have moved there lift pump back by the tank. It does work and you get better fuel pressure but the pumps still die. I am on pump #2 in 45K miles. Both of them died while back by the tank. Remember I am not stock and I think I work my pumps failry hard... I will be going to a FASS or similar set up soon. I still have a carter 4601HP to burn up before I get throgh my stock of pumps

I replaced my LP on the frame rail with a new Carter 4601,

lasted 2000 miles, I was on way to pick up a 5th wheel

and press droped to 4pis all at once, 0 at WOT.

The thing was always flaky from day one and I never

trusted it, I now have the fass and worries went away.

If you can go FASS and be done with it.
