TTT

Well, some of the other threads were getting nasty and I was cleaning up my balls and thought I remembered a bowling thread...

I got into bowling about five years ago, 4 balls and two bags and a pair of shoes later... I hung it up for a while. Played on one league team--that was fun, but a 50-mile drive.

I've got a Brunswick Rhino, my "slick" ball for spares and then a Columbia Tour Boss Ti, Ebonite Tombstone (reactive resin), and an Ebonite Wipeout-Tidal Wave. All are 15#.

The Tour Boss is good on wood and when the line dries up a some. The Tombstone will turn in olive oil. The Wipeout is between the two.

Went out the other day, second time in a month after a couple years off, and rolled a 204, 148, 215, 170. That's about as good as I do. I think my high game is in the 230's with about 20 200+ games. I'm real happy every time I roll a 200+ and always cuss that OPEN frame.

I want a ball that'll reach up out of the back and drag that FRIGGIN 10-pin down after a good hit and the 6 jumps around it. ;) :p

They make one of those yet?

So we're going back Sunday and I'll be after that 250 by golly!

I'm with you, Matt. My best was like a 228.

I finally bought my own ball, and it added over 40 pins to my average. I bought...

FABALL BLACK HAMMER

This joker has knockdown power to spare. It's hard for me to get serious heat on it (16 pounds, fingertips grip, and I'm a wuss), but the heavy ball doesn't need much heat to do its thing.

I've heard about 6 times that Faball was going out of business, so I wanted to get one of their legendary hammers (black or blue) while they were still around.

HOHN

Hohn,

I know a few guys that SWEAR by the Hammer. Great ball!

Well, let me tell ya...

This "Turbo Diesel" ball is AWESOME!!!! Yes, it's a Hammer.

Wade, I have a horrible time with the 10 pin. I have learned to move 1/2 step forward and 2 boards to the right, throw over your same mark with the same ball speed. You'll be amazed! (I'm right handed)

Many, many moons ago I rolled one down E Main St in Torrington... .

Oh, no, wait... that never happened!

I think that ended my bowling career!!

Found a hotspot the other night and rolled 232, then had to change lanes as the pinsetter was crapping out. Never found a line on the second lane.

That's another great thing about league bowling--fresh oil! I found a closer house with great prices and small crowds---but the wood/oil situation is horrible. They oil at night, play on it, and don't oil again 'til the next night. So us day-practice folks have an awful time figgering out where the ball will play.

I hit a spot so dry the other day that my ball "rolled out". It was hooking as normal and then just stopped and went dead straight before it got to the pins. I dropped jaw--never seen THAT before.

Still learning. Saw 2001 Hammers on sale at an online house.

Are you Guys seeing seeing almost all Synthetic lanes and approaches now?

A few years back I had a 650 series. It was quiet series. Just averaged about 217. That was my best night ever. :)

The house I bowl in has synthetic lanes but still has the wood approaches.

My best series during league play is 798.

The only perfect game I had was during Moonlight Bowling...

Well, I had such good results with the "turbo diesel", I went out and bought the "power diesel"... I have bowled 3 weeks now, I have not shot anything below a 220. 3 weeks shooting over 700... Oo. Oo. Oo.

I've been bowling since I was 4. My uncle owns the bowling alley in my home town. He currently has a 12 lane, all wood center with no restaraunt or bar. He's currently building a brand new state of the art center. 16 lanes, full synthetic lanes, bar, gril, ice cream parlor, banquet hall, valley ball courts, horse shoe pits, etc. The coolist thing is the new pinsetters. They are BRAND new Brunswick Zone (I believe he called them) setters. They are so new they don't even offer a technicians class yet. Chicago, NY, Reno and a place in Texas are the only places that have them.

As far as I go... . I've got a Storm, an old blue hammer, an old Critical Mass, and what we call the Fiberglass. It's a clear ball, doesn't hook on sandpaper, and looks like the ball from kingpin minus the rose. I'll get a picture of it and put it up. My best series is a 716, I've had many 279's, one 289. I can't seem to put it all together in one game or one series. Last year I took 6th in the MN mens state tourney with that 716. (plus handicapp)

How could you ever have trouble with women with a bowling record like that?!

Bill Murray's 'combover' in Kingpin KILLED me. :-laf

I have a Hammer "reaper", and a Storm "el-nino" One of my team members in my wednesday league has the "turbo diesel". I average so far this season around 190 with my career best game of 264. Just bowled a 256 this past wednesday, strung out 9 in a row to finish out. I'm a little unorthodox though, I only use my thumb for spares, on my strike shot I dont use it. My monday league is on synthetic lanes and wednesday is wood, so it keeps me in practice on both for when we travel to states.

:D Great stories about the trials & tribulations we go through in the name of sport. I bowled in several leagues for a while. Rolled a 679 series 5 times before a 700. Shot 279 4 times then got my only 300 in a mixed league; (ABC Sanctioned) Was so flabbergasted that I did not even have a 700!! But, I got the ring & a mug shot on the bowling house "wall of fame".

We have a local Yokel lefty that is averaging 247. 2 through 16 weeks of league play.

How come when the PBA Tour comes around, and now he's faced w/ a PBA oil pattern, he can't find the shot? :-laf

The PBA oil pattern can be a funny pattern to throw. Most houses go 10 board to 10 board (2nd arrow on both sides) for the heavy oil and keep the sides pretty dry. They are more forgiving that way, if you chuck it outside. The PBA pattern that I have seen is also called a "sportsmans pattern" They oil the same all the way across. It really goes to show how much some of those guys crank! I normally stand 3 to 4 boards left of center dot and throw over 2nd arrow. When I run into that pattern, I end up the opposite! I think I have a fair ammount of Revs on the ball, but not compaired to the pros! I have seen some of the pros now using the down and in shot instead of the big crank. Alot of people have problems moving to the opposite way when they get really oily. They start trying to force the ball to do things that it just can't do. Keep your release the same, just move your feet. Miss to the left move to the left, miss to the right move to the right.

pro bowlers lane conditions

:-{} I bowled at a pro tournament years ago. The way it worked we (4 men) bowled 3 games over 6 lanes with three different pros. None of us bowled our league average on any pair; only 1 pro shot over 600. Left the house completely disgusted. Never tried again-- I carried a 204 average one year in a mens league; best I ever did. Other years averaged mid to high 190's
