looking for a reliable repair shop

New member first diesel

My new toy! :) New to the diesel world too, but I learn quick and have some connections.

'06 2500 5.9 Cummins short bed, 6 spd manual transmission, manual transfer case, 106k, 2 yr warranty, one owner dealer maintained, exhaust brake, trailer brake controller, side steps, Firestone rear airbags, new tires, Rancho 9000 series shocks, Big Horn Edition, all stock never tuned and never modded, new bed liner. Oh and its like my favorite color too. I love this thing! I belong in a truck.

I feel like I found the hidden jewel of trucks and stole it.

Only part I don't like is the fake wood, but I'll figure that out later. What have other people done?

Nice looking rig rayjay, i used to have an 01 that was that color, now have an 07 silver w/black stripes, and welcome to TDR website

rayjay,

Nice looking truck, enjoy.

Hey guys, I just looked at my '05, no exhaust brake and my exhaust manifold heat shield has no heat discoloration. Any ideas why this heat shield show so much heat? Is it from the e-brake?

Gary

Rayjay, nice looking truck!!! You're gonna have a lot of fun modding it. FYI--the exhaust shield on my 2005 with NO exhaust brake also shows NO signs of heat discoloration...I would guess that GCroyle is right about the presence of the brake there leading to the discoloration, but hopefully other wil chime in, NOT that the discoloration is a problem.

Makes me miss my 04.5 2500 CTD, nice truck. rayjay, the G56 is a good trans, but needs a little attention, whats your opinion or are you aware of the issues? Does it still have the DMF? (dual mass flywheel)

Gary I noticed the same thing on the heat shield discoloration??

I had my 91.5 W-250 at the dealer for service & there was another one there for service, also. I noticed that the exhaust manifold & the exhaust side of the turbo had a white, chalk-like substance on them & asked the mechanic about it as, mine did not have the chalk on it. He said that it was from extreme heat coming from the engine. The truck was still running OK just had the white chalky look to the manifold/turbo. Neither of my trucks have ever had a similar look to them. I have EGT gauges on both trucks & use them to never let the exhaust gas temps. get too hot.
I don't know if what the mechanic told me was true, or not, but thought I'd include it here. BTW, the original posters manifold does not seem to have the chalky substance on it as far as I can tell.

Congratulations.

Your going to enjoy the new rig.

Never regreted getting a diesel.

Welcome as well.
Congrats and welcome. My first CTD was 2005 2500 Laramie QC LB 4WD. Bought it new, and just traded it in with 54000 miles. I live 1 mile from work so seldom drove it to work. Nearly all its miles were hauling or towing something, and it only ever needed normal maintenance and wear replacement, other than 1 serpentine belt. Even had both original batteries, more than 9 years old. Hope your experiences are this good or better!

The discolored heat shield and manifold is normal....for a engine that was fully built/ and ready to ship, then had to be ran thru the dyno for a quality check. Hence the clearcoated sheild/manifold turned colors when it got put thru its paces on the in house dyno at cmep. The heat sheild was supposed to be changed but seems it slipped thru and got out of the plant. So feel good in knowing that engine was ran on a dyno at cummins at about 150-200% duty cycle for 45 minutes...it is a provin engine. No worrys. Oh by the way it was ran so hard the main housing on turbo and cylinders 2 thru 5 will glow bright cherry red on dyno...hence burnt paint.

When my 03 was new the shield was not discolored, but shortly there after it was, now its a dark shade of black !!!

Well I guess I wont be concerned with the color of my shield then. Thanks guys!

In the mean time Ive added a few things.
