Lost 2 Horses - Poisoned!

Remember..[from a non member]..long

Ford is the first one I can remember , and this Bush is the only one I have really liked since.

I think he is a good guy.

And while I disagree with some things, he is doing a pretty good job. Clinton left one hell of a mess to clean up, North Korea and Bin laden just for an example, and had 8 years to do it.

Excellent speach. Spelled it out clearly why we must take out Saddam now.

The fools who gave the rebuttal wasted their breath. The Democrats had better learn it is time for action in the world, not sitting by waiting to get sucker punched, AGAIN.

Tidy up Iraq, then get the Koreans and the rest of Al Queda straightened out.

Keep on pushing them, so they waste their time running, instead of planning attacks.

The last 100 years have taught a great lesson, for those who can learn from exprience. We CANNOT sit around and watch the world go by. Nobody else has the spine or the power to take care of these problems.

Go Bush!

Wonder which?

Wonder which is worse. Lieing to the American people in a State of the union address? Or lieing to the American people about a sexual affair?

Problems? 6500 chemical weapons turned into 65000! Even if the International atomic commision stated they have found nothing that would indicate Saddam has nuclear capabilitys, he says they do. We can help Africa with billions of dollars of aid for their aids, but can't even provide basic healthcare for the working men and woman of America. If we really think we have the terrorists on the run, we have a BIG problem. Gee, I feel all safe and cozy... ... ... ..... :D This man is scary!

Here Here!

Amen! I thought it was a decent speech. I still decry that it seems that government expansion is inevitable. No Dem or Rep seems to get it-- they both want HUGE gov't, for different reasons.

I was thinking after that speech about one thing: when the government keeps GROWING bigger and bigger, it takes more people out of jobs where they are PRODUCING something in the private sector. I wonder how much potential economic growth has been stifled because people are able to work for gov't instead of in the private sector?

This thing about AIDS in Africa is a nice gesture, but consider this: AIDS spreads rampantly there mostly because of tribal customs that make incest and adultery regular practices. If ONE person in a village gets it, it won't be long before everyone else gets it. Giving them a bunch of medicine to the tune of 450 MILLION dollars of AMERICAN TAXPAYER money won't cure that.

I agree that we have an obligation to share the richness of our blessings. But we should FIRST be sharing the ideas of our Founding Fathers: limited government, liberty, and the preservation of certain inalienable rights. It's kind of like the teach a man to fish parable. We can GIVE them a fish with this AIDS meds, or we can TEACH them to fish by teaching them how their tribal practices spread the diease. This will never happen because of political correctness: you can't condemn someone's heritage (unless they're a white man), no matter how bad it may be. There are NO right and wrong, only different, correct? Rubbish.

If people want to have the level of success and proseperity that America has, they should adopt the system and national character that led to that success: a representative republic (not a democracy) of people who believe in hard work and individual responsibility. Unfortunately, hard work and individual responsibility are on the way out in America, and we may not have enough to export.

The Pres was spot-on about Iraq. Nothing to add there.

Medicare: Older people will disagree with me on this one. IF we in America TRULY believe in individual responsibility, then it is OUR job, not the gov'ts to provide for ourselves-- for retirement, for healthcare, and for life. Gov't should REMOVE the roadblocks to self-suffiency instead of contributing to them. That means we get tort reform so that doctors can afford to practice medicine. We get the gov't OUT of the healthcare business. Quit stealing money from people for Medicare, and instead let them SAVE that money and INVEST it so that they can someday meet their OWN medical expenses. Medical Savings accounts (MSA) where people would be able to invest money tax free are a great idea. Both Medicare and Social Security need to be decentralized: instead of consolidated within an inefficient gov't agency, they should revolve around the INDIVIDUAL. Let them manage their OWN account, investing where they choose. All the gov't would have to do is monitor where the money is when people file tax returns.

We could eliminate large portions of the gov't and DRASTICALLY reduce the cost of government-- that means LOWER taxes. We could completely eliminate the Dept of Veteran Affairs, because we could have each military branch handle it's own veterans. We can eliminate the Dept of Education, because Education can and always will be better handled by state and local governements. We could eliminate Health and Human Services, because these items would also fall to the state level, since we eliminated Mediscare and Social Insecurity. The gov't research labs and such will either be moved to the Dept of the Interior or contracted out and run by a contractor.

Now we need a FAIR tax system. The only fair one is where everyone pays the same rate, so we go to a flat tax of 15% or so. No exemptions, no deductions, nothing-- we all pay the same. That keeps the Gov't from CONTROLLING your behavior with tax incentives. We elminate the Capital Gains tax, because the gov't does NOT reimburse you 20% of the money you LOSE in the stock market, so it is grossly unfair of them to TAKE 20% of the money you make. Who dares, wins, as they Brits say. We also eliminate estate taxes to that small business owners can pass along their family businesses.

There are more things we can do, but there should be enough in there for everyone to find something they want to disagree with

:D

CF,

A slip of the tongue in both cases, I believe.

My view on AIDS in Africa would get me thrown of the boards, so I won't go there.

Like I said, I do disagree with some things.

While I think a total trashing of our tax plan would be a good thing, it will never pass through Congress.

I like the flat tax, but I would like to see it down at 10% or below.

What do you think of a sales tax Hohn?

Don't like what we got now? Try to fix it. Don't get anywhere in your grassroots plight to save us from ourselves? Run for office. Don't get elected? SHUT UP AND COLOR! Or another alternative... leave my country. Your thoughts, ideas, and beliefs are not welcome here anymore. Maybe France will grant you citizenship, I don't know, and really don't care. If you're not supporting, you're obstructing.

This is NOT directed at any one individual. It is aimed at the underbelly of those who believe they can cry wolf as many times as they want, and still be given credit when they are finally right. It is aimed at those who believe everyone else is wrong, and they can fix the world, even though they have never attempted to be an involved leader in something as simple as the local government or chamber of congress. You say you know everything and want to open my eyes to your knowledge? Give it a shot, maybe you're right. If not; Oh-well, swallow your pride, admit defeat, and take what you have, because it's still the best thing going, even if it's not what you would like it to be.

To speak

Here it is, you have my honest opinion of GW Bush. He is a good man, with too many advisers, taking the wrong advice. He is a president in a difficult time. Although he is making it even more difficult. If he would just come out and tell us (the american people) the truth, most would back him. He has put foot in mouth enough times and has no original thought pattern.

He is starting a new trend in big goverment with the BHD that will haunt us for many, many years. And still some people believe that the Democrats are the only ones who do this! Sorry folks but this one is going to dwarf anything the dems have started in the past. It will cost more to feed to. This sucker will eat us all, if we let it.

To do something blindly supporting, without proof is NOT the American way. Maybe that is how they do things in a communist or facist regime, but NOT in America. The love or leave it slogan is in the past, LEAVE it there. I liked change it or lose it better anyway. I will be very quiet once the battle starts and will continue to back the USA.

In the same breath, in a few days the administration is supposed to give hard proof of weapons hiding and WMD in Iraq. If they do give proof, I will be the first to backwater. I will give a formal apology to everyone here. This I will do with no problem.

I will however still question his supposed economic recover plan and his other hairbrained halfa$$ed schemes. Sorry, can't shutup and go to France, can't stand French cooking. :D :D

Wait and see?

Nancy Pelosi [new minority leader] wants to not fight because she is afraid that our troops will be gassed with chem. or biological weapons. At the same time ,her party wants to wait for a smoking gun of proof of their existence.

If the military knows where this stuff is hidden, they would be foolish to reveal it, because it would then be moved

before U. N. inspectors could get there. It would not surprise me if very sophisticated detection devices have been kept secret because of the advantage they would provide in war.

BTW my president is Charlton Heston--again

I wonder how the oil lobby feels about Bush support for Hydrogen fuel technology? [If all this war is fought for is Big Oil?]

Let us all hope and pray that it will not be necessary to fight this thing on a house to house urban setting. Lets set our political differences aside and pray for the safety of the young men and women ''over there'' My nephew just returned from ''turkey''and ''Points South'' and guarded prisoners He was gone a year for a six month tour.

Catastrophe is the only thing the Democrats desire...

... not the voters/neighbors/acquaintances and unclaimed relatives, the political animals in the Democrat party (notice, I've typed it twice without adding the letter "n" in the middle).

The "smoking gun" will most likely be a smoking crater. I just hope like hell it's located in the Iraqi desert, and not in the middle of town, underneath a bomb shelter, hospital, school, or old folks' home. Somehow, however, I suspect that he's got gases and microbes right there in the middle of town. If we bomb them, they get dispersed. Then, Iraqi TV makes sure that they show video of one of our bomb casings, among the hundreds or thousands of dead civilians, after having removed the wreckage of their own lab and storage facility. While I'm on the subject of smoking craters, we're in a "war on terror". How did we get here? Hint. Biggest damn smoking crater in US history, out there on Manhattan island, remember?

The "axis of evil" speech delivered after 11Sep01 contained the following realities:

1. this will take years..... any of you who think "we should be done by now" have been warned... . YEARS

2. there are all kinds of terror organizations to be defeated. Al Quaeda is the "bad guy du jour" but they're not the only items on the menu.

#2 leads me to #3... . You want a "link" from organized non-national terror back to Saddam Hussein?... try this on for size: He pledged and then paid suicide/homicide bombers' families for their sons' insane, murderous, cowardly acts. ... Some of that money came, also, from Saudis donating to telethons. They weren't deceived. They knew EXACTLY what they were funding.

Back to the point mentioned in my "subject" line:

Tom Daschle and his other power hungry cohorts would immensely enjoy any or all of the following:

1. another attack here in the US, so that they could say, "Republican House, Republican Senate, Republican White House... ... What happened?"

2. "innocent civilians" incinerated by a US bomb, similar to the incident that happened last time, when a legitimate target was located UNDERNEATH A BOMB SHELTER!! what kind of sick P. O. S. excuse for a human being would LITERALLY put his own unwitting citizenry at certain risk like that?

3. They seem to be looking forward, once again, to "50,000 body bags"

4. They have no more respect for our armed forces than their hero, Bill Clinton had. How much respect is that? I'm thinking approximately the same level of respect as, say, a hyperactive 4-year-old with a bag of plastic "army men".

For all his imperfections, quirks, and occasional lapses of really sound judgement, I still respect his intelligence. I admire his faith in God. I admire, but, do not share, his optimism for Africa (cultural/behavioral point about AIDS has been covered pretty decently in Hohn's posting).

We'll be OK, with this Bush. He's not a clone of his dad, like some like to chant. Bush41 is a Northeastern Liberal/globalist.

Bush43 is an American. Bush43 is a cowboy, in the WORKING sense of the word... See a problem. Analyze the problem. Eliminate the problem. Talking to a problem wastes breath, and the problem remains.

We've been "talking" to this one problem for 12 years.

Time to eliminate it.

In Texas, you don't wait for the rattler to put his fangs in your leg. You don't fill out an environmental impact statement about your planned method of dealing with the snake, and, unless it's deserved, you don't pot the snake in your neighbor's yard, either.

You kill it, and then invite the neighbors to the cookout.

I thought President Bush did a good job with the speech. The only thing that really steamed me was the endless political grandstanding as the crowd jumped up and down (or not) at each statement. I've been watching this action for years, and I'm about fed up with it. The Republicans leapt up and interrupted the President with a round of applause, while the Democrats remained seated to display their opposition.

They all need to sit there with their &*^%# mouths shut, listen to the leader of our nation, show him the respect he is due, and wait until the end to offer applause, dissent, or noble posturing to the cameras. I think they should have a few big old boys walking around behind those chairs just slappin' the &*^! out of any of them that get outta line. Dadgum it, it's the State of the Union speech, not the Show Off for Your Constituents Speech... .

Adam

are you really that simple?

As long as I pay taxes I reserve the right to complain.

It is the ONLY power our government has left me.

Mike I agree the grandstanding is a bunch of BS to make short speech seem longer. Here it is in it's entirety, less than two pages long. http://msnbc.com/news/865548.asp

Only thing he said I agree with:

"Tonight I am proposing 1. 2 billion dollars in research funding so that America can lead the world in developing clean, hydrogen-powered automobiles.

A simple chemical reaction between hydrogen and oxygen generates energy, which can be used to power a car - producing only water, not exhaust fumes. With a new national commitment, our scientists and engineers will overcome obstacles to taking these cars from laboratory to showroom - so that the first car driven by a child born today could be powered by hydrogen, and pollution-free. Join me in this important innovation - to make our air significantly cleaner, and our country much less dependent on foreign sources of energy. "

Jay,

I'm am 100% for voicing grievances. If you don't believe me, send me a PM and I'll give you a list of co-workers and supervisors to contact. Complaining about something after it has been brought to the attention of those in position to fix it however, is usually referred to as crying, and the crybaby runs the risk of being labeled a whiner.

If someone is serious about fixing something, they need to take a stand, and do what needs to be done. If that means starting or joining a grassroots organization, do it. Picket Washington DC? Knock yourself out. Start a petition to amend the Constitution? Do what you feel must be done. If that means running for office based on your political position or beliefs, do it. What I despise is lazy people who think their right to bi#^h supersedes my right to not have to listen! Anyone not willing to put action behind their rhetoric is a whiner, and no longer worthy of the limelight, whatever or wherever that may be.

Everybody has their own opinion. That's a good thing. If not, we'd all be drones, with no individuality or personal goals. Different things have different meaning and value to all of us. I firmly believe if someone is serious enough about something, they will make every effort to affect the change they desire. At that time, if the rest of America doesn't agree with them, it's time to go with the flow. We are not a country of individuals bound to a government. We are "... One nation, under God, Indivisible, with Liberty and Justice for all".

Amen,

The clapping has always ignored me, for years. Seems the libs are coming out of the wood work on talk radio, acting like this is the first time anybody clapped during the State of the Union!

Old man Bush stopped the troops at Sadomes door step.

Why?

Because he did not have the guts to tell the UN and the rest of the world to bugger off, we are fixing this problem, NOW.

The very same UN that the libs want Bush to kiss ass to now!!!!!

We have to stand alone in this liberal, socialist world and take care of any problem that might cause us trouble down the road.

Defense may have won the cold war, but it won't win against terrorists.

The hydrogen thing, good idea, but has anybody thought what it would to our climate if all the cars were spitting water out? be a bit humid, I think.

Wasn't the Hindenburg filled with hydrogen?

Re: Wonder which?

Wonder which is worse. Lieing to the American people in a State of the union address? Or lieing to the American people about a sexual affair?
Let's say he did, last time I checked the State of the union isn't done under oath in a court of law. Might want to check Slicks Willy's state adresses for "inconsistencies" while your at it.

Problems? 6500 chemical weapons turned into 65000!

What arm could he do with 6500... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... . chump change right?

Even if the International atomic commision stated they have found nothing that would indicate Saddam has nuclear capabilitys:D This man is scary!

Key word: YET! They said the same thing about N Korea too in 94. They even left inspectors there. Worked like a charm, didn't it?

Where were all you guys(liberals) when Clinton bombed Kosovo? Regime change, ring a bell? Where was the hard evidence, like the one your asking for now, for that one? Did Milosevick (?) violate 16 UN resolutions and a ceasse fire agreement for 12 years before we used force to remove him? Didn't think so. But that was one OK.

Seems to me that the left just hates Bush more than it cares

about America. Resolve in a polititian, might take some people a while to get used too.

What do you think of a sales tax Hohn?

I am not an economist, but I have been known to play one on these boards:)

Personally, I'm not sure what to think about a national sales tax. I am a big fan of tying the welfare of the Gov't to the welfare of the economy-- it provides unprecedented incentive for the demagogues in DC (that's Washington, not mopar) to keep the economy rolling. The problem is the the politicians will never feel the sting themselves-- they are always in a position to pass it down to the littler guy. They threaten to shut down the gov't, and cut spending for the military even as they vote themselves one pay raise after another.

NOtice how Bush called on Congress to give all seniors the same cushy medicare and retirement options that Congress gave themselves? There is consistently a double standard between what is good enough for those in power, and what is good enough for the rest of us. Anyone read "Animal Farm" lately? Remember, "All animals are equal, but some are more equal than others. "

I think a national sales tax would help to make the Capitol a little more accountable.

I would REALLY be a fan of a national sales tax if it led to the elimination of income tax withholding, whereby the gov't keeps YOUR MONEY from you, and gives itself an INTEREST-FREE LOAN AT YOUR EXPENSE. You COULD invest that money in a bond fund and get 4%-5% return instead. What do you think the Gov't does with it? They borrow your money at gunpoint, invest it short term, KEEP the profit for itself, then return a PORTION of YOUR money to you.

Nice racket, huh?

BTW, what CF said bears repeating in bold:He is starting a new trend in big goverment with the BHD that will haunt us for many, many years. And still some people believe that the Democrats are the only ones who do this! Sorry folks but this one is going to dwarf anything the dems have started in the past. It will cost more to feed to. And the march towards Socialism goes on... ... .

Spotty at best

The oil companys have had technology (bought from private inventers) to cut our oil usage in half for years. I don't think hydrogen is our savior. I do think restraint is the only way we will begin to reduce our need for foreign oil. Hydrogen is only one solution and it will be too costly for the average person to afford for many years.

Big difference in Kosovo bombing then and Iraq now. Kosovos bombing came after years and years of ongoing atrocities in which the WORLD was backing any action. Saddam has been Mister nice guy to his people since the US has been on its doorstep. We all know this is an act and that he still partakes in a private type murder of his enemys from time to time. This happens all over the world.

We are in a war against terror, but our goverment does NOT know how to fight it. We have to get to the roots of the problem. Clerics in Palestine, Saudi, Iran, Iraq, Syria, Libya, Pakastan, and several other nations are spreading hate by teaching a whole generation of little Bin ladens to hate America. This is going on RIGHT now, under our noses. Maybe the Muslim faith can't police it own religion, but we could. This type of war would not be fought with guns, but with education and arrests if need be.

We have a long way to go on the war on terror. It will take us years and years to do away with it. It most likely will not be over in our lifetime. We are not safe and will not be safe, even the multi-billion dollar bueracrecy of the Homeland security elephant cannot make us safe. Sorry to blow up someones bubble, that is the truth. Do I think that this new bureau will help? Yes, but it will cause a whole lot more problems, than it will help.

I was with the president until he started this vendetta on Iraq. It is just a country that may or may not be a threat to US we can whip with relative ease. We have the enemy in a cage and just like the hunts that take place on wild animal ranches in Texas, Yall come down and shoot a critter, they won't run far.

Elevation around 6000' .
