Well I bought a pair of 4" rain flaps and now have them installed but wired shut due to the frost, fog and cold temps.

I did pick up a pto style cable with a screw type head that I will mount in the cab, I have also ordered a air temp gauge from westec that is special order for a range of 30*to 150*, when installed I will simply adjust the cable to the flaps and try to get 80-90* at my airhorn.

I plan on building a steal scoop to mount under my bumper or in the bumper if I can and on the front of the scoop I will build a butterfly valve (plate) to be the temp control, the scoop will have 2 connections on the back of it for the 3" ram tubes to connect to. the front of the scoop will be like 4" tall and say 6" wide.

cheers, Kevin

Keeping that 50-90 deg....

Would there be any benefit (not talking winter/wet operation here) to building a spring loaded door that uses boost pressure to open? The more boost pressure, the more added cool air flow. Would this have any benefit to keepin the inlet temp more constant. Or is it just a PVC pipe dream... ... ??????

Sounds pretty complicated Steve.

Having the air scoop under the bumper sounds more like a dirt scoop to me. Maybe it can double as a road vac;)

I know just the bugs hitting my bumper in a 200 mile Montana summer drive would be enough to clog a BHAF.

Kev, I think you might find 30° isn't low enough on the gauge. Mine reads 0°-300°. When it gets way below zero I'm lucky to hit 30° sucking 100% underhood air.

I think as far as getting clean outside air without noise in the cab the stock fender inlet may be best. Have you checked into enlarging it?

Bill, you are right....

I was told about 20 years ago, by a good friend, when I was trying to put in to use some hair brained idea like that one... . "the simpler, the better. "

As far as... "Have you checked into enlarging it?"..... I thought I saw a picture of someone's aftermarket device that bolted up in the top of the fender well to transfer more air from the front of the rig to the inlet hole for the air box.

Sounds like a nice RamAir hood would be the best deal. Santa, did you hear that, huh, did you hear that? :D
