Old Dog,

Your truck will run great w/ a VA & dd2's. You will get a little smoke under the turbo, but by the way it pulls like a mule it'll be well worth it. You'll get used to controlling the smoke in no time.

I have a VA, boost module & dd1's. Truck runs absolutely excellent, but should have gone w/ the dd2's.

??????

Im just telling it like it is FOR ME, not "whining".....

You can get 275's for $260. 00 or you can spend $600. 00 for 2's. TO ME its not worth the extra cash especialy if you have a box. IMO IMO IMO IMO ;)

Interesting graph.......

Wonder why they show MPH instead of RPM. It would make more sense as a lot of trucks are geared different.

Heres what I did. When the little womans truck was stock and I still had the HY turbo on we decided to race and see where an 11,000 pound truck would be against a stock truck.

Race was close but she beat me every time, but not by that much. Off the line the jump for her wasn't as far as some of you might imagine. 40 punch and we were dead even, she pulled away in the end. So the DD2's can't be that bad off the line if I could stay that close with about a 4500 lb. difference in weights.

We never raced after the new turbo and now her truck is modified too. I can gaurantee she'd really cream me now.

HeeHee! Knew that would get a rise out of the guyz. Was just funnin'... (mostly).

Anyways, ive also been paying attention to the feedback on injectors, and want to go up a step or two. The bottom line seems to be smoke & egts.

Most people seem to report the same or better mileage when going to bigger inj's as long as they drive reasonable (after the honeymoon).

The thing I still cant figure out is how some people report lower egt's at the same power level w/ dd2's compared to dd3's while towing. That doesnt make sense, unless someone can clarify why.

Dont know why the 275's would outperform dd2's at low rpms, except that maybe theres not enough air in the chambers due to turbo lag, and its actually starving for air.

I know my dd1's should be right in between the two, and it torques out great, with only a little smoke. Its actually, an excellent towing combo (with the VA), but not quite as strong unloaded as id like it to be (while playing w/ riceburners & ss454 chevys).

Everyone Ive spoken with that have dd3's along with a method of timing advance says they work great for towing, as long as you watch the egts. Dont see why dd2's would be a problem. Something doesnt sound right with that. Maybe theres a map sensor or IAT problem?

Maybe keeping the dd2's & pulling the muffler, or adding a 4" exhaust & a BHAF would impove flow enough to be able to utililze the 2's.

Also keep in mind that bigger injectors make life on the VP44 pump easier, since its solonoid activation time is less for the same fueling.

ummm, that is wrong! injectors do not make life easier on the injector pump, they just direct more fuel into the combustion chamber rather than the fuel recovery galley in the head. Injectors do not affect VP44 duty cycle!

injectors

Will I have the dd2's bought and paid for so i am going to put them in and see what see will do . I have a va/boost /elbow BHAF and a 4" ext and a pusher pumpwhen i put the ext on my egt drop 200 deg and when pulling i never get over 1000. so i will put the dd2's in and see what see will do.

All I have to do is have a cook out and a bombing party.

Shortshift, yoo should keep your dd1's,if you are happy with the towing performance. I would sell the VA,and buy a power edge comp, this way you can turn it up for hot rodding with no trailer, have full smoke adjustments, and bring it back down to the VA's level for towing,Its the best of both worlds. On the dd2's vs dd3's. We had both dd2's and dd3's in my dad's 01,the dd2's do have lower egts'but they also have quite a bit less power too. I have dd3's,if i towed a lot i would drop to dd2's,the 3's can get hot,to hot towing IMO unless you have a big turbo

Diesel Freak,

If youre correct, then this has been a pretty big misconseption in the past, because one of the selling points for getting larger injectors has always been that they are easier on the pump (for daily drivers or towing).

It was my understanding that this was due to less on-time for the solonoid at the same fuel level, because the bigger or more nozzles, need less fueling duration for the same output.

Also, Id prefer to go with the bigger injectors, and avoid using the "pump-wire" type fueling box as much as possible, because they DO stress the pump, which is a known-weak spot, and is an expensive repair.

Thats one reason for selling the Blue-box, and have been considering the comp, for its de-fueling ability with the larger injectors, and for short spurts when "engaging with the enemy".

But now, with all of the reports of stuttering while running the comp, and ALOT of people have had to try multiple units to get their problems resolved (which some are still having the problem) , I have to question the RELIABILITY of the comp.

Think its better to keep it simple (KISS) and keep the VA, and boost module/elbow, and just go w/ dd2's minimum, or maybe even 3's. Keeping the pump wire clean of outside influences.
