Not the cable but the part that has the threads for adjustment, I was wandering if this piece comes with the new cable or if I have to get it seperate. Thanks

The recall pkg. CANZ9700, comes with a new cable and new ends and new ball studs that the ends attach to.

Is the piece to which you are referring, the male threaded rod that attaches approx. 1/2 way under the injection pump, right after the sweep/bend in the tube portion of the linkage?

If so, try Cummins pt. # 3914362 (one end is right hand thread the other left hand).

Good luck,

Andy

The same rod broke on my 94 a few years ago. When I got a new one from Dodge, it was way too long. Another dealer said there was a new throttle assembly and the rod I got was the only one in the parts system. I put on the new stuff and it worked fine but it cost over $300. Also, all the arms adjust and it took a while to get full throttle and idle.

I've seen several broken throttle rods and several more whose threads stripped out.

It is NOT included in the recall package.

The last time I bought one, I believe it was about $28 or so.

I've seen several people tack weld them on too after the rod ends strip off.

When I bought the replacement rod for my own truck it was too long. I had to trim it off to get the length I needed.

Have a tech look at your truck (not the computer) and tell you if the recall has been done properly and completely on your truck. Mine was improperly done a few years ago by a Dodge dealer and it was repaired by Forest Lake Dodge a couple of months ago after the tech noticed it. They said safety recalls are warranteed forever and there was no charge.

Even if the rod is not covered they will be removing it anyway.

Was reading the TSB and noticed it says not to lubricate

any of the ball joints. Breaking do to corrosion, what would be a protectant but not a lubricant .

Repair:

The throttle linkage rod ends and linkage ball studs must be replaced.

Parts:

Quantity Description

2 Throttle rod ball studs

2 Throttle rod ball stud nuts

1 Short threaded rod end

1 Long threaded rod end

This is from the TSB it doesnt say anything about the throtle cable But isnt there a recall for the cable too.

I got the recall notice in the mail awhile back. Haven't taken it to get fixed because I don't trust any of the nearby dealers and I'm afraid they will screw something up.

Is the corrosion something that happens if you live in a climate that is real damp?

The TSB says not to lubricate, seems like this would prevent the problem. Why don't they want lubrication on there.

Maybe I need to give them another try and let them fix it.

Kaleahena (sp?)

I recently had a 95 Dodge cummins with 180,000 miles on it sitting in my driveway with a broken throttle cable. Truck was totally dissabled and un drivable. Called the local Dodge dealer and gave them the serial number (vin #) and they ran it through their cumputer and found out there were 4 recalls that had not been done since 1995. The owner fessed up and said yeah he got the recalls several years ago but was too busey to get them done. Long story short they paid to have the trk towed to their shop and did all 4 recalls at no charge. The shop foreman said the recalls are good for the life of the vehicle. Even tho this idiot never took his trk in (because he was to busey) they took care of it at no charge. He was lucky it dident break while towing his 5vr over some big grade a zillion miles from nowhwere.

You should not have a problem taking it to your local Dodge dealer and having any recall done iregardless of the time lapse from notification untill the present. Bottom line factory recalls are good forever.

Good luck Dave Gardner ;)

I took mine in for the repair and it only covers the cable not the rod that broke in the first place so im still in the same perdicament I was before I took it in .

For what it's worth I have an extra throttle rod I bought for my 96. The recalled was done and I didn't need it. I'll check and see what all parts I have. Let me know if you need it.

. . Preston. .

Smokin', I haven't seen anywhere what year you have, but for what it's worth, I took my truck in for the cable recall in August of 2001. In July of 2002 one of the PLASTIC ball joints on the end of the throttle rod broke, leaving me stranded. I limped to another dealer a couple of miles away and had them replace the complete throttle rod because they don't sell just the ends to fit my old rod (because it's a safety recall, all they offer now are STEEL joints!). A month later I went back to the first dealer and asked if this shouldn't have been replaced with the recall parts. We pulled the same part number that they billed to my original work order and low and behold it comes complete with STEEL joints that they did not install. I finally got them to reimburse me for the emergency work I'd had done at the second dealer this past May. So, at least for the '95 auto 4X2, the recall "kit" comes with a new cable AND STEEL ball joints.

Are you guys saying that they replace the plastic ends with steel ends?

It's interesting because I wouldn't think the plastic would corrode.

Or is it possible that there are several different recalls for the linkage alone?
