I have a 2004. 5 2500 Cummins, and I have owned it for a little over a year. It is my first diesel and I fought it since the day I brought it home... I guess I convinced myself that I just don't like it... .

SO, I ordered a Ford V10 in March, as I wanted to go back to gas and I really want a manula transmission for towing... . the Ram has an automatic.

Anyway, I had not driven the Ram for a couple of months... it just sat there. We went camping last weekend and I realized that I don't want to get rid of the diesel... . it's really cool and a blast to drive... I must of had deisel fumes in my head or something...

DILEMMA - what do I do about the Ford I ordered? It I don't take it, I'll lose the $1000 down payment... it I do take it, I will be giving up my Ram... HELP>>>>

What would you do???? (I know, you would not have ordered a Ford in the first place... . but it is too late now)... .

HELP!! :{ :{ :{

Got yourself in a pickle, huh. If it were me I woud loose the 1k before the Cummins, you will be much happier with the power and mileage. Of course I am partial being that I have had mine for 6 years and would never part with it. You can make up the 1k with the money you save on maintanance also. Ditch the V10. Just my . 02 worth.

DHerzog,

I for one would rather lose $1,000 then up with a "terd". Try and see if the dealer has someone else interested in that truck and set-up, maybe worth a try.

This is why I would never ever put a down payment on a truck order there are too many dealers that are willing to do an order without money down. If I were you I would go and see if a sob story to the Ford dealer would get you out some guys are not as bad as others if you tell them you made a finacialy mistake and realize that you cannot afford to take on the new truck payment you might and I say might be able to get yourself out of this one.

buyers remorse..... truck isn't delivered is it? I'd just ask them and see what happens. If they won't..... wait till it gets there, don't sign squat and sit on it. Heck, you could even burn the tires down on a test drive. :-laf Donno why but plenty of folks around here seem to want those. I guess "in-town" folks like them for some reason?

Buyer's remorse... EXACTLY... . I had gone to three Ford dealers and it seems like $1000 down is the standard deal... they absolutely wiould not order a truck without a down payment and they mede it very clear that I loose it if I don't take the truck.

There has been some issue with folks getting orders cancelled since Ford closed the Windsor Ontation plant where the V10 are cast... that is being moved to Ohio... I may get lucky, so I will wait to see if it comes in...

Otherwise, I am 70% sure I am going to eath the $1000 and keep the Cummings... . sometimes I wonder what the heck is wrong with me!!!

I just talked to a fellow at the local gas station today. He was filling up his Ford F350 2wd, dually, crew cab, w/V10 under the hood. Attached to the rig was a trailer that had to be about 30 ft long. It was an enclosed triple axle trailer, and not very aerodynamic by any means. And loaded heavy.

Anyway, I asked him what he got for fuel mileage. He said 15 mpg. My jaw about hit the ground!!!!. I asked him if there were any aftermarket mods done to the truck, and he said no.

I am hoping that if you get the V10, that you keep us informed as to how it performs, and what kind of mileage you get. If it is as good as that fellow said, I would be looking to trade my 04 in. If I could get one that made that kind of mileage, beings gas is cheaper than diesel, I would be waaayyyy ahead.

I personally have never sat behind a V10, so I know very little about them.

Good luck with whatever choice you make.

Well, if the truck hasn't been delivered, I would see about getting your $1k back. It could be that it hasn't even been built. Even if its on its way, I would just be honest with the Ford dealer and see what they do.

In the end, I would eat the $1k if I had too. At 9 MPG in the Ford, your diesel's increased MPG should make up $1k pretty quickly.

Doing some very rough math I calculated that it would take just under 15,000 miles (using current gas price of $2. 22, diesel price $2. 65, 9mpg v10, 15 mpg cummins) for you to recoup that $1k.

I really doubt he got 15 mpg loaded...

I bet I have talked to 100 V10 owners over the past year (at every camp site) and most say 12-15 higway empty, 8-9 towing a 12000 pound 5th wheel or TT, and 10-12 back and forth to work...

I NEVER heard of anyone getting 15 loaded... .

My cummins get 16 back and forth to work and 11 towing... . so there is not a tremendous difference in mpg, and diesel is higher here (about 25 cents) so the cost to drive is probably a wash... .

I have driven a couple of used V10s and one guy let me pull his 5th wheel for a couple of miles (could not believe he offered) and the V10 seems to pull as good as the diesel... don't know about hills, though.

I spoken to a few folks and a buddy had two of them. It appears as though they really don't break-in until 50k or so. 15 unloaded is a real number, even 17 is possible. . I said possible. However, loaded down the truck will dip down into the 9's and even deeper when ya push it. It seems to be a little better than the GM 8. 1 on fuel but not that close to the older diesels.

12. 5 is what I got in my 2000 Powerstroke. That was driving like an old lady in a funeral. How a V-10 gasser could get anything close to that around town is beyond me.

You know, its funny for all the postering our wonderful congress and senate does about oil profits and yet they refuse to lower the fuel taxes which would help us ALL!!

Contact whomever handles the lemon law in your state. Tell them what you've done and what you've signed and they should be able to tell you what options, if any, you have.

If you put the DP on your credit card they will often help you get you $$$ back if you've not taken delivery on the item. Check it out. DP on a credit card is much better than check in most cases..... More options.

It Is Very Hard For One To Eat 1000 Bucks Imo-so Id Say Go With The Ford-my Brother Inlaw Had A 99 V10 Ford 4x4 Cc Dually With The Stick And It Got Around 14mpg Towing About 10k. Awesome Power And Great Sound.

Open Up The Exhaust With A Borla Kit And Run Around Sounding Like An Indy Car!!!

Im Sure Youll Be Trading Down With The Dodge So With The Extra Cabbage, Go Out And Find You A 96-98 12v With A Stick And Add A Clutch, Plate, And Injectors. Then You Could Have A Choice Which One To Drive--the Indy Car Or The Road Tractor!?

go to the bank and cancel your deposit and then go to the dealer and tell them you dont want it. they need to stop the order--before they get to far along, i did it once, it caused a problem at the dealership but oh well i got my money back. :D

I know this doesn't help but as previously mentioned, I never pay the $1000 down. There are too many dealers, around these parts anyways, that are willing to place an order without one. When they ask I just either say nope, or such and such dealer isn't asking for one. The big reason for me is I like to keep my options open, especially after the truck arrives and I go for a test drive.

klenger is right in pointing out theres more than just recouping the $1000 in fuel differences. You are paying more than the $1000 just by driving a new truck off the lot.

As for the Ford V10s, we have two 04s here. We use them to haul eight-horse trailers and for plowing snow in the winter. So far they have been dependable trucks, but they only have around 20K on each. Power wise it isn't like driving a diesel and I always remind myself that I'm glad I'm not paying for the gas.
