Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) survive the death code

I've noticed a problem over the past couple of weeks hoping it would go away but it just seems to be happening more frequently. Normally from a dead stop I start the truck out in 2nd gear. the torque of the engine will move the truck forward and just as the clutch pedal is almost all the way out I start depressing on the accelerator and I'm off on my marry way. Lately when I start to let the clutch out it's if I'm trying to start off in 4th gear. The truck just lugs and dies. There is no consistency to this occurrence. Sometimes it does it and sometimes it doesn't. (The truck is in 2nd gear when this happens, not 4th) The fuel filter gets changed on a regular basis and I always add 8oz of fuel treatment to a fillup for proper VP lubrication. I have 98,655 miles on the truck. Original VP-44

Any ideas??? Is this a early VP-44 problem??

my 02 would do something similar when the VP was going south. Have you noticed any dead pedal issues while going down the road?

Assuming your fuel pressure is strong, I would look at the batteries/grounds, MAF and the IAT sensor, then APPS before you go down the VP44 road. Codes would help if you have any.

Fuel pressure is strong. 14lbs @ idle and 11lbs to maybe 12lbs at WOT. I'll have to go over to my clients auto shop and hook up his code reader and see if any codes are surfacing. Battery grounds are good. Cleaned truck throughly over the weekend, one of the things I checked was battery connections.

These things are never easy to figure out.
