NAPA Fuel line compatability for Diesel Fuel?

Dealer wants $43 for 6" of fuel line... .
Anything special about this diesel fuel line?
Or can I use the ordinary 3/8 & 5/16 fuel line found at the parts store?

Ordinary gas hose cracks on the outer layer but i've used it. It looked OK inside. See if NAPA sell hose for diesel. I've gotten transmission cooler hose at NAPA before - maybe that would be better! Craig

I have NAPA fuel hose on mine for about the last 20,000 miles. So far its OK.

My auxiliery 110 tank is plumbed with 3/8" NAPA fuel hose.

Have had the NAPA fuel line on mine for almost two years, no problem. I think it cost maybe two bucks.

When I tried regular gas hose, it was on an Olds diesel(20 yrs. ago). It wasn't NAPA. It sounds like they have good stuff! Craig

You ought to do like I did and tell the dealer that you were born. But not yesterday. They **** me off so bad, Its no wonder that they are having layoffs. They quoted me $4. 90 a quart for ATF+3. Napa has valvoline ATF+3 for $2. 39 a Qt. They said they would soon have NAPA brand ATF+3 and it will be lower in price than the Valvoline. 5 turds wanted $40. 00 for an upper radiator hose, NAPA sold me one for $10. 00. Serpantine belt DC- $39. 00, Napa- $18. 00.
I just go to DC as a last resort. You think the fools would realize how much business their losing. By the way buy all your filters at Cummins.

The proper hose will meet SAE spec J30R7, see issue 31 page 59.

Hey Rebel, thanks for the tech spec. Got Gates hose @ Carquest w/ that spec. When did you receive Issue# 31??? Don't have it yet...

My hats off to any one who replaced this hose completely from the top! Not possible for me, mebbe me arms are too short! #ad
Hose was cracked completely thru so I didn't have to worry about fuel coming out since it had already leaked out. Can you believe how the dealer is trying to "HOSE" ya w/ these prices? Yes, that pun was intended! #ad

Had to replace mine last month, it ruptured and was spewin' fuel like crazy. The dealer had replaced it a few years back to fix the hard-start problem when my Dad owned the truck. After I got the hose off, I could see two deep grooves where it had been rubbing between the fuel filter mount and the engine. These are pretty sharp edges. Funny though, that's not where it ruptured. The hose was rated J30R7, which I believe is rated at 50psi, and other than the chaffing, it looked fine. Don't know why it failed. Anyway, I routed it pretty much the same way but placed a plastic sleeve over the hose to avoid the chaffing.

Needed only to pull the fuel filter and was able to do it all from the top. Using a spin-tight made that possible. Still had major bruising on forearm though.
