2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission brake problem

I have an adjustable after-market track bar on my truck. I just installed the Dana 60 Mag-Hytec. When I hit a bump, the track bar hits the cover; not the mounting bolts or the flange. This is a straight up and down motion that hits the cover about 1. 5 inches to the right of the dip stick.

I know, I read the Mag-Hytec disclaimer about OEM track bars only. Not complaining, just looking for a solution, the Dodge OEM track bar is junk and not an option.

I have read a zillion posts on the subject and so far I have not found a definitive answer to my problem.

My specific question is, will the Napa Track Bar, part #272-4229 work and give reasonable service life with the Mag-Hytec Dana 60 cover on a 1998, 12 valve, 4X4 with stock lift?

DOWG,

I believe the NAPA is the same as stock and will run about 250 bucks. You can get same as stock from Advance Auto for about 100 bucks. But, your back to "junk".

If it came from Advance, it is junk.

P. S. I have absolutely no grudge against Advance Auto Salvage, I mean parts :-{}

tracking bar

My 96 3/4 ton was wandering back and forth. I had my grandson look at it while I moved the steering wheel and it was moving a good 1/4". The new bar from our local stealer was $250. 00+ so I got to looking in TDR and ran across Doug Hofelt in Pocatello, Idaho and he told me about Lukes Link. (www.lukeslink.com) I ordered one for about $60. 00 plus shipping. It took me all of 35 minutes to install it and now if something goes TU with respect to the bar. I can replace the urithane spring in a matter of minutes and all is well again. I think that Lukes Link is the best.

YEAH, i did the Lukes Link fix myself. i have been really pleased with the performance of the piece. and it has been on since last summer. the only thing i did not like was the grease fittin'. i had to put a longer one in place of the provided one. (my grease gun wouldn't reach the one provided)

Go With the Luke's

:)

I have luke's on the tie rods and a DT track bar.

If I had known about luke's I would have gone for that option and the MagTech cover.

I'm using the NAPA track bar and the Mag Hytec front cover. Even during some pretty severe elk hunting, it never hit. I believe the bar has a lifetime warranty. The Luke's link won't fit with the Mag Hytec.

no Luke's?

Joe ,

Are you sure about the Luke's link?

I have them on my tie rods.

As far as I know the link's are the same (tie rod and track bar).

The luke's link does not change the location of the stock track bar. It simply "rebuilds" the rod end at the frame connection.

I don't see how it would cause the stock track bar to interfear with the Mag Hytech cover.

The adjustable track bar on my truck has been beefed up and the frame end extends down towards the front differential resulting in shorter travel length when the suspension is compressed which lets it hit. The Luke's Link also extends the track bar in the direction of the differential although not as far, but from what I have read on TDR, it would result in the same problem. So, if Joe Donnelly says the NAPA works with Mag-Hytec, I guess I will try it.

Thanks guys.

Why are we saying the Federal Mogul one is junk. I thought it was the same as Moog. I must have missed something.

I also thought Hemi-Dart bought the Federal Mogul part and when he mic'd it and compared it to his NAPA bar he determined them to be the esentially the same.

Luke's Link

I added a Luke's Link after I installed a Mag-Hytec on my 94 4wd.

There is a clearance problem with this setup. If I went over a speed bump or something similar I would hear a slight contact sound. I could also see marks in the Mag-Hytec cover. I had some longer springs made and that solved the problem. Without a lift you cannot use the Link and Mag-Hytec together.

BTW with the new springs and new Rancho 9000X extended length shocks my truck rides alot better. The Luke's Link really helped and I would recomend it. Of course the lift also shows off the Mag-Hytec which is an added benefit,IMHO.

Went to the Lukes Link

And it says that the link is for the 94-00. Is the site simply outdated, or does my 01 have a different trackbar? I might note that with 127,000 miles my steering is great, straight as an arrow and no messing with the wheel.
