What's Worse - Making a Bad Decision or Not Making a Decision?

Put an end to most telemarketers by signing up on the National Do Not Call Registry:

http://www.donotcall.gov

Unfortunately, some businesses are still exempt:

* long-distance phone companies

* airlines

* banks and credit unions; and

* the business of insurance, to the extent that it is regulated by state law.

I signed up yesterday. I can't really say that I have gotten bugged much in the past though. I just did it to make sure that it didn't happen in the future.

When everyone signs the list, there will be no one for the telemarketers to call. Guess what? Now the phone companies will start charging more to make up for lost revenue from the telemarketers. Vicious circle.

I signed up on Thursday and got my confirmation Email Friday morning. I am glad they did this. I have been using a Telezapper since last Christmas and it has really helped. It makes me smile every time I answer the phone and hear silence after the tone sounds. I just say to myself "Killed another of the B------s!" The few calls that get thru the Telezapper sometimes get a message from me that "I do not feel that there is any advantage to me to continue a conversation with a person with a telemarketers brain capacity. " This usually gets a quick disconnect, sometimes with a "Have a nice day. "

I seem to remember reading that if one of the exempt parties to this list calls you can tell them not to call again and that if they do call again they can suffer the same penalties as a party not exempted. I will go back and read it again to be sure.

Someone on the news a few days ago stated that a lot of people would loose their jobs as telemarketers because of this law. These people need to get a real job, not one that consists of harassing others for a living. I have no sympathy for anyone who thinks their right to free speech includes invading the privacy of my home with their message.

In the past whenever I would get a call, I would just say "hang on for one minute, I've got something boiling over on the stove!" Then I would just set the phone down and go back to what I was doing. Once, I picked the phone back up 15-minutes later and the poor B###### was still waiting for me to return. Best thing to do is waste their time.

Maybe that list you signed up for is scam. Is your email address and phone number now on a white pages listing?

Political parties are also exempt from the new do not call rules. Look who has your phone and email address now...

The telemarketers say it will make things easier for them as they would prefer to only call people who want them to call. I guess those people must exsist.

your E-mail

So, if they do go to the E-mail, to pester you, they are just wasting space on you computer, just delete it, then put a block on that address. i do that on one of mine, that gets all of my junk mail. my other two address don't get bulk mail. we'll have to Wait and see.

just my penny's worth.

Personally, from what I have heard in the news concerning this registry, the response has been overwhelming. I think that this sends a clear message that many of us don't want to be harassed at home on our personal telephones. I think that any politician might think twice about contacting someone that has clearly gone out of his way to block this harassment.

optout

i personally think that it will put MORE people out KNOCKING on doors, my door to door nuisances have increased by at least 10%.

and i get very defensive with these people.

Send them to my door! They will only come one time and will be reluctant to knock on another door. My house is private property. If I don't want you here, YOU DON"T WANT TO BE HERE!

The Feds, state or any one else I don't want having my E-Mail address won't get it.

My ISP allows me to set up several E-Mail addresses. I have one, as does my wife. Oh, and the dog too.

When someone like the feds wants an e-mail address, I give 'em the dogs address. Go in once a month or so and clean out the SPAM and good to go.

The phone listing is in the dogs name too. When I get a call asking for "Mr or Mrs ****" I know it's a telemarketer and they are dealt with accordingly.

Works for me.

Hey Dresslered,

Funny you should mention it. Lovely Lucy received an offer for 2. 9 % financing on the new Mercedes C class on Friday! I know it's DCX but I specifically asked her to apply for the special offer from Dodge! Women never listen!
