Midnight Drags Was great!

Ogden Dyno Days

We're planning another dyno event at Goerend Bros. Transmission Shop in St. Lucas, Iowa for the weekend of May 18-19. Last year we had 20 trucks run on Dave's dyno. It was a great time of fellowship, and the proceeds went to charity.

Hopefully Amianthus will post soon with more details on this year's event.

We have a block of campsites reserved at Skip-a-Way Resort in Clermont, IA for Friday - Sun. The phone number there is 800-728-1167.

Hope to see a lot of people there!

hey Dave,

do you remember how much it was to run on the dino last year?

Sounds like a great time.

Dennis

Dennis, last year it was $20. per run - with 100% of that going to charity. Dave G. graciously donated his time and his shop/dyno time. I don't have confirmation if it's the same deal this year, but I wouldn't be surprised if it is.

Also, I think we're still looking for a pair of slicks on stock rims to put on the high HP trucks for the dyno if anyone knows of any.

You mean there is other cummins owners from the mid west on the tdr? lol. I will try to keep the weekend open and the pocket book full enough to come up if you'll let a first genner run. Do you guys have any more gatherings during the year? I haven't looked where st lucas is yet but davenport can't be very far away from NE Iowa

Yeah, we do stuff all the time! A lot of us in our local group are in WI, but we have quite a few IA guys too. St. Lucas is south of Decorah - maybe 160 miles from you. Hope you can make it! Email me if you want any more info about our local group - we can add you to our email list if you want.

Dave

Went to Goerands.

I went to Dave's yesterday to get another look at the dyno. Last year we had some issues with it and it was harder for us to get some meaningfull numbers from it. I'm working on a solution that will allow us to have a memento from our runs. Hopefully Dave and I will have this fixed and ready to go by the time we get there this year. docdyno is being extremely helpfull in getting this thing ready to go.

As far as where St. Lucas is, it's about 20 minutes south of Decorah. I have no insight on the Campground yet. My next trip down to work on the dyno will also include a trip to the campground for more information.

I don't know what the fee this year will be per run. If Dave has to put alot of capital into the dyno improvement, there may be an increase in cost. I'm doing my best for this not to happen. But, I can say with some certainty that the lions share WILL go to charity. That will be completely up to Dave. I can also pursue more of this when I go back. Or, if Dave reads this, perhaps he can let us know what his intentions are.

If you guys have any more questions, my mailbox has room. Hope to see you there.

Aron (Amianthus)

I am hoping to make it down for the weekend festivities. Still working on the logistics, but hoping to combine it with a business trip. Just have to keep my fingers crossed that something else doesn't come up to stop me.

Some details.

Okay guys, here's the skinny so far on the dyno weekend.

I am planning to start running the dyno Saturday at around 9:00. The cost will be $40 per truck to run. If you are not going to run, $20 per truck. This fee includes all contests, prizes, lunch, and sodas (sorry, no barley pop. You have to bring your own. ). If you run your truck, you will get a free souvenier printout of your run. We're doing the best we can to get better runs this year and more hard data for comparison. (But, please, don't shoot me if you don't like the results. ) I should say that all procedes from this event are going to charity. We've chosen the Ronald McDonald House in Rochester, MN. And we've chosen Camp Sunnyside in Des Moines, IA also. So bring your $$$.

We will be having a couple of contests. Unfortunately, Satuday is the only day we will have to fully judge the contests. What we are planning for contests are the following, a show and shine to be voted on by the attendees, farthest travelled, and of course, highest HP. The HP competition will be broken into two groups each with three subcategories. The groups will be automatic and manual transmissions. The sub-categories will be fully BOMBed (the truck, not the driver)(over 325 HP), modified (up to 325 HP), and stock. I hope to be done with the dyno by 5:00. All competitions will be finished by then, unless there are other circumstances.

Saturday night will be a pot luck dinner to start around 6:30 - 7:00. Now, so that everyone doesn't bring lime green jello, I've broken this down like so. Those from MN should bring a dessert of some sort to pass around. Those from WI should bring side dishes such as salads, veggie trays, chips, etc. Those from IA should bring some sort of hot dish (main course?). Of course these are only guidelines and you can bring what you want, but this should help prevent everyone from bringing the same stuff. I would ask that noone spend an inordinate amount on this. Try to stay below $20 per dish. Unless you really want to...

After dinner will be the award ceremony and a couple of auctions. Once those are done, I have no other plans for the night. We can tell ghost stories, jokes, point at Fireman Dave and laugh, whatever.

Sunday, the dyno will be available again. Probably from 10:00 to about 4:00. Depending on how Dave G. feels. I'm sorry but Sunday will be too late to enter for contests.

If you guys have projects that you'd like to do on your trucks, this would be a good time to do them. There will be a ton of technical expertese on hand to help with your projects.

If you guys have any questions, drop one of us an email. I hope to see you there and I hope you guys will have a good time.

HEY! :{ :{

LOL:-laf :-laf

johnrv4's campfire stories are the best you'll ever hear - especially the ones about his work. :D Better go to the bathroom before hand, because you might pee your pants laughing. :-laf

Thanks for all your work, Aron!

Does anybody know what kind of dyno it is DynoJet or a Mustang? I may try to get up there with my truck as I would like to get it redyno as my latest tweaking should be done by then.

Just read your signature Doug, what happened to the EZ. . and DDI's being "All you need"? Hehe

Told you... it never stops... ... ... ... ... .

It's neither a Mustang or a Dynojet. It's a Sun Road-A-Matic. It uses the same eddy current brake as a Mustang 250 Dyno. Supposedly, It's a 700 HP dyno. The dials only register 240 HP. But using some equations and a computer I hope to at least double that capacity. Once I get the software, I will start trials on it to see how it works. I'll keep you guys posted.

Hey Guys,

My wife was just wondering if any families go down for the weekend or if it was mostly a guy thing. She doesn't want to seem like a tag along. You know how they can get.

Dennis

More news.

Here's another update on the dyno weekend.

Things are moving along pretty well. I still haven't had the chance to test out the dyno yet with the new software and computer interface (data aquisiton) box (graciously provided by docdyno). But the computer is ready for a trial (as far as I can tell). Gotta get that done pretty soon. I will also have a fan this year for cooling the trucks as they run on the dyno. Although, this year each run shouldn't take very long (a lot less time than last year). We will be running the dyno as an accelerometer. I don't believe the brake has enough oomph to hold our trucks long enough for an extended dyno run. I may also have some slicks (or at least better tires) for use on the dyno for the HiPo rigs to use. I'll let you know how things work out after testing.

As for accomodations, the address of the campground is 3825 Harding Road (Hwy 18), Clermont, IA. I would post a map, but since everyone is coming from different directions, that would be hard to do. This one you'll have to look on a map for. I will say that it is not hard to find. The address for Dave's shop is 119 North Main Street, St. Lucas, IA. Now, if you use a map program, you will have a hard time finding it. I will get better directions a little later on. Perhaps Ray would know the quickest way there.

I will have some tables to use for the event. For stuff like the dyno runs, Saturday's dinner, auctions, etc.

I would like to ask a few volunteers for some help on the day of the dyno event. There will be many things going on at once and we won't be able to take care of it all (I think I'm gonna be busy with the dyno most of the day). If you think you'd like to help out, drop me a note and let me know. We could use the help with setup, take down, dinner, and on and on.

We have several sponsors for this event and I would like to thank them now. For helping us get this event going I'd like to thank GB Transmissions (dyno facilities), Edge Products (Edge EZ and Possibly a Juice, t-shirts), Piers Diesel Research (50% gift certificate), South Bend Clutch (50% gift certificate), Geno's Garage (Numerous things for prizes. Too many to mention. ), Chrysler Winona (knick-knacks), and whoever else jumps in on this before the event. I will be mentioning them again during the event and would like to ask that you guys keep these companies in mind when going for your diesel service products.

Finally, I'd like to ask that you do two things. First, bring your wallet. This event is for charity and some great bargains can be had here. Second, tell people. I'd like to see some other brands there as well.

Well, that's it for now. I'll keep you posted as it gets closer. If anyone has questions, drop one of us a note and we'll try to get it answered.

Catch ya later.

Hey count me in!!!... well maybe that is. Now that I've got a decent ride again, I may just stop up. Only about an 1 1/2 hours for me to get up there. I'll have to see what's going on that weekend first. I just don;t want to be too embarrased running a stock truck on the dyno. I'd love to start bombing it, but after buying it the $ is a little tight. Oh well, it's still alot more power than my old 93!

Mike,

I ran mine on the dyno last year - stock. What the heck? The guys don't tease me too bad about being stock - hehe. I'm very comfortable in my stockness. They tease me more about my bed liner. :-laf :-laf Seriously, come on up and see us. We have a great group of guys.

Dave

My timing sucks

Hey guys,

I will not be in attendance this year because I will be in Vegas for a wedding. Not mine, mind you. So I hope every one has a blast. Sounds like it is going to be even bigger and better than last year. I am attending Thunder in Muncie so I hope to see some of you there.

Later,

Eric

Dan, (ROADWARRIOR) your PM inbox is full so I cannot PM you.

Only 2 more weeks to go.

Besides meeting the other attendees, I'm really interested to learn about the transmissions packages that Goerend Bros. offer for the 47RE. I was really impressed with the numbers put up by Norm Archer back in February

Dave;

If I can get there I'll run my stock 97 auto so you don't have to be the only whipping boy.

diesel on
