I got to work this afternoon after lunch, and popped the hood to pull the shut off lever (I have joined the pull cable crew, just have yet to buy the cable), and noticed diesel fuel ALL OVER the left side of the block. "Oh well, no biggie, I'll just limp it on home after work" (about a mile). I got home, popped the hood, and found the return line going to the injector pump had ruptured right at the bracket by the tappet cover bolt. Called Cummins MidSouth, and they want $56 + ~$15 for freight. What happened to stock orders?

Anyway, I would like to just eliminate the pot metal line and install a hydraulic- style hose in its place. What size ends do I need to get? I have heard of the AN fittings for the supply side, but that is Greek to me. The guys at NAPA were absolutely no help, as it wasnt a stock part, and they dont think in terms of working around the OEM junk. The thread for the banjo bolt is a 12x1. 5; the other end is a 3/16 compression fitting, but they swore it was a flare fitting, as the metal line was flared. (I had failed to take the t-fitting in with me for a reference). Anyway, I am going to try a tractor dealership in town, and maybe call CaseIH in Poplar Bluff, as they are the premier hydraulic hose builder in that area. I just need to know if the metric will convert to AN.

Daniel

yes it will

i have a place here in so cal that makes an fittings that screw into motorcycle cyl heads (metric) for external oiling

you know who might have it in stock also - vulcan perfomance - 866-446-1043

ask for eric and plz tell him don tanklage sent you

Thanks, Don. I will keep that in mind if nothing else works out.

I looked up the part number the CUmmins guy gave me (3925860) on reliable goods website, and it is listed as in stock for $42 or so. Could this be right? If so, I'll definitely go that route. Where can I look up the parts to make SURE I am getting the right one the first time?

Daniel

hell, i dont know

i race drag bikes

am new at all this diesel stuff

just paid $124 for a tiny little lift pump from cummins (tx n gskt incl)

and my problem is back, btw, so now its time to redo all the lines

that would be nice tho, a site where we could look up the parts before going there...

Daniel, take that part #, change the 3 to a J. Call Case, and get a price. I can get you one, might be a few days to get there. Let me know!

Stock order(s) are once every week. You'd have to wait several days... ... ... a week at the most, to get your parts... ... ... ... ... ...

Don't forget shipping with those low advertised internet prices:rolleyes:. DP go to your favorite hose shop and get a 12mmx1. 5 X -6AN straight coupler. That will thread into the return of the VE. Then it's up to you as to how you want to connect your -6 hose to the return. I'm sure you could also find a 12mmx1. 5 X something smaller, such as a hose barb fitting, then run that to the return.

Think different, forget about part numbers, Dodge, or Cummins. It's all fittings, hose, and lines. You can rig it however you want. You could even run a whole new return line back to the tank. Tee it into the tank vent, or a new bulkhead fitting in the tank etc. But that would cost more.

Update:

No one in this town could get metric adaptors, or they didnt want to. I ended up going to the local John Deere construction dealer, as they have all sorts of odd fittings and ends. He couldnt help me, but he called the local International Truck dealer, who happens to be a Cummins dealer as well, and gave them the part number. Guy at International said it was $35, and he could have it here in the morning (today) for overnight freight. I told him go ahead. I picked it up today for $53. xx after the govt share. That is STILL LESS than Cummins wanted for the line, without freight.

Now to get a new solenoid plunger- after filing down to the metal, mine still has a chunk out of it.

DP

I have a solenoid I took out that killed the engine when I hit big potholes etc. It's yours for the taking if you need one. It's just taking up space in the shop cupboards where some other junk/treasure could be...

Aeroquip, Earls and Russell also have all kinds of metric to AN adapters, and Summit or Jeg's usually has anything you need in stock, good prices and usually gets to you in 2 days.
