Dear Dad:

I found a Ford model 1210 4WD compact tractor for sale by second owner. It has a 3 cylinder diesel, front end loader, rear 3 pt. with scraper and tilt hydraulics, new tires, 180 hours, hydrostatic drive, recently completely serviced and comes with service manuals. Started right up with no smoke, runs smooth, and the overall condition is very good.

Asking $7K but negotiable and the size is perfect for my needs.

I need to know if this is a fair price and if there is any info anybody has on these. All I know is that it has a Ford serial plate and it is made in Japan.

A 1210 is a bit older but from your description I would say buy it now or loose it because I would give that much sight unseen. I would first offer like 6500 and try to save a few bucks or even 6000 even. I buy and sell farm equipment for a living so I am well aware of the markets on these compacts and you will not go wrong on that deal. I bought a base tractor with 4wd and 3 point last summer for 3500 and it was tough looking and got 4800 for it at the end of summer after using it to landscape my yard. It was also a 1210 and had nearly 3000 hours on it. Hope this helps, Chris

Thanks guys, keep the feedback coming.

Nothing is wrong with it that I can tell. I did not drive it because it is on a trailer but I will drive it before I buy it.

Lnwing, I tried tractorbynet but I could not find any info when I searched for 1210. I am not a member, does that matter?

A friend told me that it may have been made by Yanmar.

Yanmar????????? HAHA It's more like Yanmar copied Ford, but I would make real sure that this guy didn't buy a Yanmar and paint it and slap on some Ford decals to shove it up someone's arse for a higher value. Can you get a picture of it uploaded here? Chris

I don't have any pictures of the one I am looking at but here is one at a dealer without the scraper. It is in about the same condition and the dealer is asking $6500

my aunt and uncle have one. It is a noisy little rappy diesel that seems like it will run for an eternity. They have not had any problems with the engine that I know of. They do not have the hydrostatic transmission though.

Here it is! Oo.

This is the second Ford I have ever owned, the first one was a Pinto, and I think the tractor has more power. :-laf

Anyway it runs strong and the 4WD works awesome.

Thanks guys for all your input. I was able to haggle the guy down to a fair price based on the research I have done and your suggestions.
