Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Need altenator

I need an altenator for my 99 ram2500. Should I go to NAPA or is there someone else that is a better choice. Thanks, Keith

I put a NAPA new unit on mine two years ago and it is doing fine. Only thing I am not comfortable with is the country of origin. Had to have them get me a second one as the first had a casting problem and was eating belts.

there is a 200 amp model (185 amp at idle) from a shop in Boyertown PA. I don't remember there name, but they are priced closer to $300. Just in case you need it.

I know PAperformance has the 200 amp alternator I'm thinking about getting when mine goes out.

Although not the least expensive option, you could go with a high output unit from the Mecahnical Man (mechman.com, I think). I've had one on my '01 2500 for 5 years without problem. I ran one on a Blazer for over 12 years without a problem I was very happy with that since I replace the NAPA unit every 11 month. Yes, NAPA would exchange them free under warranty, but they won't drive 150 miles north of Fairbanks at -45F to replace it for you when your truck is on side of the road. Two alternators from Mechanical Man, Zero problems.

I got one for my 99 @ Auto Zone over a year ago no problems to date. I find NAPA has good stuff, a bit pricey sometime - the NAPA guy's in my area are not very friendly, like they're doing you a favor when you walk in, so I don't shop there. If I need something from NAPA I go to a different one, it's further away but worth the customer service

With those high output alternators, do you have to replace the main fusible link, which is rated at 120 or 140 amps? (I don't remember which)
