Ahhhh... I think not!
A remanufactured ECM for a 2001 Dodge Ram w/5. 9 Cummins, Federal, Normal Temp (Dodge part R5083997AA)
Auto Computer Exchange price = $595. 00 no core charge. 1 year warranty offered upon return of old ECM.
Dodge Parts price = $819. 60 + $250 core charge. 12 month warranty is honored only if installed (at extra cost) and flashed (at extra cost) by a Dodge dealer.
An ECM from Dodge WILL require flashing after installation (I asked Dodge) as Dodge does hasn't sold pre-programmed ECM in years. New ECM are not available from Dodge either (in case someone was wondering).

John L.
Ahhh, Thanks John but keep thinking. :-laf
Heres the info from
Dodge Parts Online Parts & Accessories Catalog.
ECM, All Models, 5. 9L Diesel, Auto Trans, Federal, 24 Valve 01-02 $436. 80.
I called two dealers today and was quoted 1 hour to install and program and at $80 each that comes to $516. 80 plus tax. If I were to buy the ECM directly from either dealer they would beat the $595 price from auto computer exchange and that is programmed and installed. What dealer quoted you $819? MSRP is listed at $606?
Core is a wash as it is returned either way. If you want the warranty and at either price I want a warranty. Any core charge, if any, is returned. If it's bad I do not need paper weights.
You are correct ECM or PCM from Dodge is remanufactured and is not programmed. I knew this already (Dodge published a bulletin a couple years ago on this) but what I meant was I never asked Dodgeparts.com if they can program before shipping as some have this capability without the truck.
From
Auto Computer Exchange: Exchanges are required for all purchases and you may be subject to a 'core charge' in addition to a canceled warranty if you do not return your old part. 1 year warranty.
From
Auto Computer Exchange on their E-Bay Store: The computer you purchase from this listing is eligible for a
Lifetime Warranty that's good for as long as you own the vehicle it's for. $100 core charge and no warranty if the old ECU is not returned.
Which Auto Computer Exchange store is better? Same company different warranties.
Bottomline shop around as the web isn't always the best price.
