I just recently purchased a 2007-3500 dually 4x4 quad cab. What has been the past experience on the need of an extended warrenty past the normal factory time. I know its a gamble but was wondering what others have experienced. This has automatic trans.

Thanks Sam

the dealers seem to have trouble honoring the basic warranty. Don't know that I'd spent the extra cash ( which is a lot BTW ), but that's me

If you don't plan to mod the truck in anyway for the next 100K then, it might be something to think about. Don't mean to be a nay sayer but with me, the major problems have always been right after the warranty expires.

I own 3 of these trucks... . 04, 04. 5, and a 05, all of which are out of warranty... except the engine warranty on the 05, the first two are either over 200K or just about there.....

The extended warranty would have been a waste of money for us.....

I plan to purchase one because of the amount of expensive modules in the specific truck I ordered with DVD,NAV etc there is a delership online selling them for great prices and some local dealers will match it let me know if you find better pricing I plan to add this before my new truck arrives

I will chance it and keep my $ in my pocket. Nothings worse than bringing a truck to the dealer. They take 1-2 days to even look at it then if it needs anything major plan on a week or more. In the past the service is always better and quicker as a cash paying customer.

(Lotto tickets seem like a better investment than a waranty)

I need to add something here..... I own a 2001 goldwing that came with a 3 year unlimited mileage warranty... for 350. 00 you could add a bumper to bumper 4 additional years with unlimited mileage... . I bought this as its a good value...

If I could buy a 4 year, unlimited mileage warranty for say $2000, I'd step up and do it..... but DC skates so much on what they cover and how limited it is... . that its not cost effective..... Just my 2 cents worth...

My extended warranty was $1895. 00 and was financed into the deal. Cheap insurance I feel. Was for a 7 year 70K bumper to bumper.

I do not buy extended warranties for anything. My perspective is that the manufatures wouldn't offer these warranties, if it were in the publics best intrest. They are money makers for the manufactures. Same goes for leasing a vehicle. Just my . 02 .

That sums it up very well. For most people quick service at a fair price is more important than getting off with a $100 deductible and having to wait a week after paying thouands to the corporation.

This is all assuming that your dealer takes 1-2 days to look at it, does customer cash repairs first etc. If you have a dealer that is worth a S***** and treats customers right, then this is not an issue... If you are ever in or around Hemet CA, Hemet Chrysler center does just this. Shoot, I can show up w/o an appt and the service writer will pull a tech to the front to answer questions, etc The dealership even gives me a Rental car ( WHich is NOT in my warranty) just for being a loyal customer. So for me, i purchased the Bumper to Bumper to 85,000 And IF something Major were to ever happen, 100. 00 deductible is fine for a 6,000 repair. Even if it takes a week. My . 02

Back in Oct. I bought a 7yr/70k max care bumper to bumper for $1145 & no tax! My worthless dealer wouldn't even sell me a OEM Chrysler, the moron had some aftermarket crap that cost even more!#@$%!

I did a pretty good search on the Internet & found www.chryslerservicecontracts.com to be about the cheapest. Don't EVEN consider an aftermarket contract. I also don't know that ANY extended warranty is a good idea! Only time will tell!:-laf

My last 2 posts didn't give you my full story for those who don't know me...

I own an 04, 04. 5, and a 05, with 235K on the 05 and I'm guessing 350 or 400 K miles total between the 3 trucks... . under the conditions above I'd past the extended warranty on all 3 except for the 100k warranty on the engine on 2 of them... ...

We drive them to 500 K and replace them... this year I'm replacing a 91 Ford with 575K and a 2000 F550 with 450K miles if DC ever gets the 4500 and 5500 into production.....

If DC would step up to the plate and do the 10/100 (I think GM is doing it), it wouldn't be an issue. That they went from the 7/70 down to 3/36 (I think) for the standard warranty stinks. Back in the early 90's, that 7/70 was a good sales pitch. My view is that if a company is willing to stand behind a product for 10/100, they must have faith. Or a hard time moving stock. :-laf

Extended warranty

The extended warranty that gives you the coverage worthwhile is

about $2000. If your truck is not abused, meaning it's not banged up

from being driven over stumps and rocks, etc. , all you have to do

is call DC customer service and they'll repair your truck after the

warranty is out. Dealers don't make this call for you. Customer

service verifies the care that you have given your truck by calling the

dealer service department. GM is also good about this, can't speak for

Ford. It's been most apparent to me that the Manufacturer does not

expect you to buy insurance and it's never been mentioned when I have

requested out-of-warranty work. Buy it only if it makes you feel

comfortable.

Bumper to Bumper? have never seen an extended warrany that is bumper to bumper. They don't cover interior items or maintenance items. If the dealer told you it was bumper to bumper, i have some ocean front property here in new mexico fer ya.

Welcome back Sam Peterson and thanks again for being such a great guy to so many fellow Cummins owner.

Look forward to seeing you a future get together :)

I paid $850 for my 7 year chrysler max care warranty, zero deductible. Finance guy tried to sell me the $100 and the $50 deductibles and they were like $150 and $100 less respectibely. It was a pretty easy decision.

You may have missed your boat on your ocean stuff. maintenance isn't warranty, it's just plain old common maintenance. I never once in my life thought or expected it to be warranty, so I don't know where you dug that comment up. Also, I have my extended warranty in front of me. I know what I have and don't have. Please tell me how you can tell me what I have and don't have??

Your comments are unreal and you may keep your ocean stuff. You seem to have vast knowledge on how to talk to people incorrectly then warranty knowledge. It's simple, if you don't like extended warranties, don't buy them. I've never been denied warranty in my life on any warranty or extended warranty. Just like I said in my original post, I feel it's cheap insurance.

Oh, and YES it does cover alot of interior items. I just looked. You may stop by your dealer and get a copy of the Maximum care coverage and educate yourself.

Just a few things interior wise that it covers; seat belts, all modules, all wiring harnesses, seat motors, seat tracks, steering column, lamps, glove box, latches and catches, pedals, switches, radio, speedo cluster, HVAC system, all motors, rear view mirror, overhead display, sunroof, gauges, and more then I want to type.

Everybody is different and not everybody wants or likes extended warranties. I happen to like them, have good luck with them and I buy them. But I do not like when people offer me comments that are uncalled for. CBRAHS, you may keep your ocean front property, be a good place for you to retire.

Compared to what I just spent on the truck the warranty was nothing. No telling how many gremlins could be waiting in a new engine AND new transmission setup.

Need some advice here. Does anyone have any first-hand experience with this dealer (Champion Dodge in Barrington, IL) selling service contracts nationwide? I am expecting my 6. 7 on April 10th. My dealer quoted me $4400 for the max care 7/100k. My quote from the website above is $1955. Big difference here.

I should mention I am buying on a DC employee's EP discount, so I am assuming the dealer is factoring their profit on the sale into the selling price of the service contract. The sales rep could barely keep a straight face when he told me the price and changed the subjet immediately.

Thoughts?
