Truck: '98 12v 5-speed. Does not have daylight running lamps.

I'm trying to locate connector C126, which is described by the big green book as being in the left side dash panel. There is no picture for it showing its location. It is a square, gray connector with 4 rows of 4 pins each for 16 total. I've spent a half hour on my back with a flash light and a mirror poking around under the dash trying to find it. I assume it is somewhere between the clutch pedal and the fuse panel on the end of the dash but I can't seem to find it. I'm beginning to think it may actually be in the engine compartment near the brake control valve.

Does anyone know specifically where it is and can describe its location? I'm trying to trace down a voltage loss in my back-up lights and I've narrowed it down to ocurring between connector C134 and the back-up light switch on the transmission.

TIA,

-Jay

Canadian DRL Location

On my 97 the DRL is located on the left inner fender close to the firewall.

This one has a 10 pin connector with pins 2 & 7 not used.

The OEM units tend to burn up, + cost about $140 from the *******!

I hacksawed the connector end off mine to mate into a relay box to drive my sport head lamp install.

In the 97 "BIBLE" it is shown as connector C131.

Maybe some one with a 98 "BIBLE"could help, as I belive up to and including 97 this was only available in Canada EH!

Interesting, but that doesn't really help me.

Connector C126 is between C134, which I've tested, and the backup light switch on the transmission, which I've also tested. At C134 I have about 11+ volts. At the backup light switch I have about 9.

You can find the wiring diagram I'm using on page 8W-51-2 in the green bible for a '98.

Thanks,

I spent a bit of time trying to locate C126 to help you. It seems it's kind of obscure.

What I did find may help but I'm not real sure. Section 8W-S, which I guess is a supplement section, shows C126 as a 12 pin connector instead of 16. It's on page 8W-80-4 of 8W-S.

My '98 is in Nevada right now so I can't go look at it. Because the connector is between the PCM and C134 I wouldn't be surprised to find it near/on the firewall under the hood.

C126 contains wires for the speed control, horn switch, stop lamp, and more in addition to the B/U lamp. (See page 8W-30-9 of 8W-S).

Hope all this helps some. I'll keep looking and will check my '98 next week when it's back home if you haven't solved it before then.

C 134 is the DRL's under the hood dr side on the wheel well. On Canadian trucks the DRL's are also the Fuse for the Back up lights.

Good luck EH

danavilla,

Thanks for your efforts! I'll look at those pages, but I think the suppliments to the green book for wiring and so forth are for the 24 valves introduced in mid '98. So perhaps C126 changed to a 12 pin plug for that configuration.

KDoerr,

The reason I mention the DRL issue is that I think a different connector than C126 is used on trucks with DRL. Since mine doesn't have DRL, the connector I'm looking for is C126. On mine, the previous connector in the path I'm tracing - C134 - is just to the left of the clutch pedal and is easy to see when looking up under the dash. It is a large, white, rectangular connector with a retaining bolt in the middle. According to the diagrams in the book, the next connector is C126. Then the path goes on down to the backup light switch on the transmission.

Thanks all for tyring. Keep looking!
