I am looking for a dealer that can work on diesels (the 03 models) I live near Joliet IL. To repair the oil leak it, looks like it could be a major job. I haven’t put a post of my new truck yet because I don’t want to give a lot of praise before this is fixed. I have tried or called 4 dealers and here is how it goes.
Dealer: 1
They can work on them no problem. So I took it in to drop it off the night before. While waiting for my wife, the dealer pulled my truck in and started to work on it. I could see all of this as the mech cranked down on the oil pan bolts. I went over and asked if he found the problem he said yes the oil pan bolts where loose, it ‘s not leaking any oil now he said. I had to remind him that he didn’t start the engine. Still waiting for my wife, they pull my truck out and I follow the mech to the service desk . I asked if it’s done already and the service manger said yes. Again I had to tell him the truck ran for less than three minutes and the mech didn’t even look under the truck when he parked it. This goes on longer but I think you get the Ideal. They did finally put some dye in the oil and I drove it home. I never returned.

Called them. They were very honest, service manager said they didn’t have anyone certified on the 03s yet. But try dealer: 3.

Called them. They can work on all the trucks, so they say. Dropped it off the night before. Called them the next day at around 12:00. Service manager said they are trying to locate a big enough trans jack to handle the 6 speed. 2:00 They can’t do the job because they don’t have a big enough jack to remove the trans so they can see where it is leaking oil from. They too put dye in oil. When I went to pick it up that night I told them I had spoke to Chrysler and they said, if the dealer can’t fix it they can farm it out to someone who can. It’s just like a paint job or front end alignment. The service manager said (you will have to check around and see if another dealer can fix it). Again I took my truck home.

Can you work on the 03. We work on all the 1tons we get a lot of them in here. Yes but can you work on diesels. The say yes. I drop it off on a Tuesday morning, call them at 12:00 Service manager said the guy that works on the diesels is out on a test drive. 4:00 they couldn’t get to it. Wednesday they tell me it’s a rear main seal and it’s on order, it will come on Thursday. I call them at 4:00 and they said the trans will be pulled by tonight. I went down to see the seal that’s leaking. 4:30 they are looking for something to handle the trans. The mech shows me the oil leaking. I ask him for his uv light he said it’s in the back, I say just let my truck down and I will get the one from behind my seat. He just blows me off and continuous to talk about the leak and how hard it is to see the oil on the engine, because the engine is so shinny. I ask him if it’s the rear main why don’t I see it coming out the slot at the bottom of the trans he said because of it slinging it out through the bell housing. I remind him that I saw it coming from above the bell housing he said it will sling it all over. 4:50 all they have done is, removed the drive shaft in two days. Thursday I call and asked them if thy could put the drive shaft back on and I will pick it up later, that I needed to use the truck for Friday and it didn’t look like thy would have it done by then. I never received a ticket for their attempt. We had a much longer conversation then this but I wanted to keep this somewhat short.
So with all this I have a( 03 3500 dually HO 6 speed) With a oil leak that leaves about 1 tablespoon of oil in my drive. Each time I drive it.
