OK, found my bulling start... lost an injector on the ride home tonight. Dodge wants $1057/injector and the diesel mechanic told me he recommended replacing all 6 with 142k on the clock. I ordered crossover tubes in case their bad, and the gaskets for the intake plenum.

Now I need injectors... whose?? Completely stock truck... have a FASS, and that's it (Smarty Jr. in the future since this now happened, but not now... ).

I need a VERY reliable injector, nothing wild... I need to be able to trust this thing for cross country runs. Industrial Injectors? Don M? Flux Is? All names I've heard, but who should I run?? Should I do 40HP tips??

Any help will be appreciated... actually going to have a Dodge dealer install them for $300...

I was just searching, and F1 injectors look promising...

Probably call them in the AM to see what they have to say...

OH, and can someone verify this is an injector... knocked like hell, shaking the truck, enough smoke that people stay away from you, loss of power... feels like a "dead" cylinder if you know what I mean. And it just happened without warning... no loss of rail pressure, no loss of boost, no high EGTs, and the LP pressures are still good.

If I was just "cruising", it was pretty much normal, any throttle and it knocked/missed/smoked. Power was pretty low too...

I'm pretty sure I have classic injector failure symptoms... am I correct?

Stock truck... stock injectors???

I'm not into BOMBing, just need a truck to get me down the road the most reliably that I can...

Hmmm, F1 prices are for nozzles only... looks like around $2400 for a set of NEW injectors...

Probably go the extra mile and buy IIs injectors... $2700.

but don can repair your old broken injecters for 100 each so tips say $800 and 6 rebuilt injecters $600 =$1400

don will go trhu them thoroughly and rebuild them to new specs for $100 a piece for customers that are getting upgraded nozzles. There is no need to buy new ones. He will pressure test them and check the return rates on them to make sure they are good to go. Not to mention he will only repair what is needed so you will keep a lot of coin in your pocket!

My problem is that I can't pull the injectors... no place, no tools... the truck is at the dodge garage (where I bought it), so I'm at their mercy... not sure I want it sitting outside in the dust and dirt waiting on injectors...

I'm seriously considering pawning this thing off on a 1st gen truck. I took care of this thing... run additive every tank, dual filtration down to 1 micron, completely stock truck...

Steve, surely you can find a shop around you up there that can do injectors, I wouldn't trust the Dodge place to do them.

All mechanical parts will fail. The more complex the sooner... ... ... ... ...

Def injector(s). My buddy just had the same exact symptoms on his powerstroke. He had one bad injector. Howmany miles on your truck?

No shops I would trust... of the one's I've seen, Jannety and NGM are the "closest" (but still several states away).

By the looks of it, I'll be talking to Diesel Service later this AM for a set of new stock sticks. From the PMs I've seen, apparently this isn't something stocked (and a Cummins dealer will probably get them here faster).

Hope I have my Engine Data recorder somewhere...

$432/injector from Cummins... new exchange, not rebuilt.

For anyone looking for a "600" injector from Cummins, PN 4940051NX.

The part number has been superceded MANY times, which the comment was made that they must be having trouble with these injectors.

So a grand total of $2592 from Cummins...

Still too early to call anyone else...

Steve,

As mentioned F1 can do you injectors. When I owned PDW they did many rebuilds on the CR injectors for guys with no issues after they were done. F1 can turn your injectors in 24 hours. The dodge dealer can pull them and overight them to F1, Don will rpair and upgrade them and then overnight them back to you. Total down time is normally 48-72 hours.

As for no shops you trust... . I would trust Mid-Atlantic Diesel Performance with my truck anyday. Here is a link to there site: Home

There again, they don't do the rebuilds unless you buy the upgraded nozzles... last time I did the math, $1100 for nozzles and upwards of $250/injector (what I have seen posted in different recent threads) to rebuild places me into new injector territory...

And again, how much will it cost to have the truck towed to MD? Especially with this ice storm that is taking place right now...

I'm not trying to be difficult, but I doubt the dodge dealer will pull them and wait for them to get done... Plus, they aren't answering their phone.
