Power steering sometimes fails
3rd Gen. 2003 2WD. Just replaced the power steering hoses and power steering pump 1 month ago. Local company did the work. On my way from work on the freeway 70 mph, 30 mile commute. When I slightly moved over to the off ramp everything was fine. Came up to stop sign, two right turn lanes, I am on the inside lane. I slowed for a "CA stop" and tried to turn right but the power steering failed and I just about hit the motor home in the lane next to me. It was really hard to steer right, but it was like manual steering. I continued down the road and the next right turn it did the same thing. The the steering came back, no issues.

I took it to a local shop that replaced the power steering pump and hoses and they found nothing wrong and drove it on the freeway, same conditions and the problem never came up. This is really dangerous and if my wife was driving she would have been in an accident.

Could it be the hydroboost unit? Rack and pinion? Steering gear? maybe an intermittent power steering pump that was just replaced? I drove the vehicle probably 50-60 miles before the problem happened and no problems. The problem came up after I drove for about 30 miles at freeway speeds at 70mph.

This is dangerous and the shop cant find the problem. I need a recommendation for a good and fair local garage that knows what they are doing.
The current shop that I have the truck at ....... ehhhh.
Help!!!

I've heard good things about Sutherland Performance in Lancaster but never used them myself or know if they do chassis stuff but maybe they can recommend. Have asked a motorhead pal in that area...will pass along if he has any recs.

If it isn't doing it I don't know any shop that is going to do any better at diagnosing it than the one that installed the parts.
