Horse Power Question ? ?

I deal with Brand Wars at work: Do You?

My brother-in-law has a realy nice crew cab International Low-Pro 4700 with the IH DT 466. Nice truck, but needs a serious boost of power. It won't pull his horse trailer (really, really big) half as well as his 2002 HO with goodies I installed. He needs the bigger truck for the weight, room, and brakes, but can't hardly get it above 65 mph.

The DT 466 has the tried and true Bosch P-7100 pump, so I know there's more in it, but I can't find anyone that will tell me which cam plate I need to install. I've already done the simple method of sliding the plate forward in tiny increments, and there have been small power gains each time, but still not enough. I slid the plate forward . 030" the first time, and . 040" the second, . 070" total forward movement from stock.

EGTs have remained in check, so I feel confident that the truck would still benefit from more fuel, I just don't know how to get it.

Any P-7100 wizards out there with any ideas?

No ideas, anyone? How much power can the DT 466 make and still be reliable? I would think that it should be able to push at least 330 hp. I know the P-7100 is capable of a LOT more fuel delivery than the 225 hp rating requires.

Not much help here but

Get it on a dyno to see if it is even making the hp it is suposed to make maybe you have a problem and hoping it up will not make things better if there is "other" problems. What year truck? Have you checked to see if it is getting full throttle? I have seen some late model IHC trucks have a lot of throttle cable stretch and even some have had the throttle pedal bend and not get full throttle. These are the things I can think of right now. Good Luck

The internals should easily hold up to 330 hp. We have a series 40 detroit (a rebadged dt466) in our engine at the fire company and it get's consistantly run hard, NO problems at all, it gets started cold and run hard, sometimes for several hours straight pumping at full capacity
