:{:{I have an 06 3500 Mega Cab. Last week I started hearing an intermitant hollow knockin sound. It was eratic and could never get it to do it where I could get out and crawl around it. Then I could here it mostly when I came to an abrupt stop or put the truck in reverse to back down the drive way. I really thought it was something loose and rattling (sounded like what I would think the ac evaporator would sound like if it was vibrating againt something)

Well yesterday about 5 miles from the house It started knocking continously and loud. It was doing it at idle and around 1500 rpms but couldnt hear it any other time. No lose of power or smoke. Then as it started doing it constantly I could hear the turbo whining differently like it had a sputter in it. As I managed to get it back to the house it sounded like two steel washers being shakin in an empty coffee can. Still no smoke or apparent lose of power. I know of Pikes Diesel in Hiram who seems to be familiar with the 5. 9 and Blacks Performance Diesel in Adairsville who seems to specialize in 5. 9. Lookin for any tips on problem or refferences on either mechanic or any other one. I am not going to crank it and will have to trailer it. Sounds like a valve has dropped and is just gettin slamed around in the cylinder. (while I know thats cant quite be true thats just how it sounds)

Did some tinkerin today with some friends advise. Flexplate bolts have backed out. Several were extreemly loose and one had actually fallen out and was sittin on top of the dust cover. Look like Ill be pullin the transmission soon

Autobot, I have a friend (04 2500) that same thing happened to here in Alabama. He moved from Calif 2 yrs. ago. Before moving here he had a factory warranty transmission rebuild. I towed him to Garmons diesel shop in Griffin Ga. for another complete rebuild and a new flex-plate. He only needed a new flex-plate but decided to make things bullet proof. His truck has a fuel controller, large rims w/mudgrips and tows 10k. Plus he has a very heavy foot. So far 2 years have passed and the Garmon rebuild has done fine. I have another friend with a 98 12 valve that Jeff did a complete transmission rebuild with major power upgrades. I saw him dyno 434 horse power and over 800 ft/lbs torque.
You will enjoy meeting Jeff Garmon. While there check out his Dodge 2000 (not a 1500 or 2500) racing diesel.
Don't let Jeff talk you into spending all your money. HeHeHe.
