Need source for lead sheeting to silence truck.

Looking for a source preferably NW for some of that great leading to silence my dodge. I live in oregon so a portland or southwestern washington source would be great so i wouldnt have to pay shipping on lead :--)

If you are interested, I have a 4'x10' roll of lead I'd like to sell some, or all of. It is pretty thick lead and weighs 2 pounds per square foot.

Thanks for the offer cooker, but shipping 80 pounds of lead from michigan is a little cost prohibitive plus i think i should need around 70 sq feet. Thanks for the offer though. Youll find a taker.

I just ordered some sound deadening material from McMaster Carr. Did some searching on the 'net, and one type they carry came recommended highly from various sites... When I get around to putting it in I'll post the results.



FYI- I got about 100 sq. ft. of material for about $100.

Maybe I've missed the point here, but I'm wondering why you want to use lead in the first place, when other equally, if not more efficient products (i. e. Dynamat product family) are available without the weight premium?

I just finished adding sound deadening material to my truck. I used the B-Quiet Extreme material. You apply the sheets with a roller and I did the floor and back of the cab with 50sq/ft. The truck is very nice to ride in now, you can hear the stereo crisp and clear.

The roofing supply houses have the lead in 1'X20' or

3 feet x 15'. I used 3 rolls of 1x20 in my 97 club cab. I think they ran about 27$ Worth the time, especially the back wall . Rear seat lift up and out , front seats come out fairly easy. It will take an afternoon.

All joking aside, lead is a very toxic material to be adding to your environment or to be working with. I'm sure from reading the other thread posted here that it works well and goes in neatly, but has anyone considered the long term health risk? It's not true that ingestion is the only pathway into the body - it can be absorbed through skin and is most toxic when breathed as vapor or dust paticles.

The potentially harmful effects extend to anyone who rides in a lead encased cab. You know, like your kids? I'd think that it would kill any resale value of a truck if a buyer found out it is there, and I doubt that a dealer could legally sell such a vehicle.



I'm sorry to interject this and probably should be minding my own business, but I'm sitting here with serious liver and kidney problems that apparently are much the result of my longterm exposures to lead both at work and at home while I cast bullets for pistol competitions twenty years ago. The stuff doesn't leave the body - resides in the liver and bone marrow and can return to bite you years after the last exposure. I'm 54 years old.

I am with KSHINE... . it doesn't seem to be worth the risk. I mean, if you want the ULTIMATE in noice supression, try to get some depleted uranium for the floorboards. Personally, I think the toxicity thing rules out any kind of heavy metal sound suppressor.



if you want heavy metal, crank up the stereo...
