I know this subject has probably been beat to death, but I need a little help in choosing tires for my stock 6. 5" rims. Present Michelins, 245/75/16 LREs have 80,000 miles on them and finally need to be replaced. I'm debating between the Michelin 265/75/16 LREs, BFG 265 or 285s. I love the look of the 285s, but are there any problems using them on the stock rims?

I had the same size tires as you and wanted a little more height while retaining the stock rims and keeping the rolling resistance down. I opted to go with the Mich. 235/85/16E to fit the bill. I like the extra height ( about the same as the 265/75) and kept the tire narrow. I did loose a little "off the line" feel and my spedo is off by 5. 3%.

IMO a 285/75 is too wide for a 6 1/2". You could run a 255/85, they're the same height just narrower. I run 255/85s on 8" Aftermarket rims and like the size.
