Relay for trailer lights was bad. Headlights working properly without relay for now. Put new relay in and it blew immediately. Bad wiring to the trailer plug somewhere. He thinks under the spare tire maybe. Didn't have time to leave with the Dodge dealership today. Back Monday for the day.

Ok, my truck had a gooseneck/5th wheel hitch in it at some point, but has been taken out and welded over before I bought it. The factory wires to the trailer hitch had been tapped to have a plug right at the hitch. They were just cut off when the hitch was removed and they were shorting the trailer light relay.

Wouldn't you like to meet the person that thought THAT was a good idea? :-{}

Well, I feel a little dumb for not checking the wiring through there. After I bought the truck, I noticed the bed had been welded back where the gooseneck hitch had been. They Line-x'ed it so it wasn't noticable from the topside. I hate they took the hitch, etc. out. It was like they were trying to hide the fact it had towed something heavy. I could care less, that is what the truck is made for. Maybe they just wanted to sell the hitch, although the Line-x job would cost about as much as the hitch is worth?..... dunno.

But, yes, it did erk me a little that I ended up spending $125 or so at the Dodge dealership for diagnostic time. Of course they had it for a day and a half, so it probably was not a bad deal. Just hate to not have something to show for the $ spent, and for someone elses screw up... ..... I am glad that I didn't have a day and a half of my own time trying to figure out what was wrong though..... I'd have pulled my hair out :-laf
