If anyone out there has once owned a CTD and thinks they should sell it and buy a car to get better gas mileage- DO NOT DO IT!

HA! I am sorry guys, it happened to me. But there is hope! I decided to sell ol' RED here about 6 months ago and buy a car. Bad decision. I am in the process of buying an 02' 2500 QC 4X, I think this time I am going to get the 5 spd. in White!! I can't wait to get back to normal! I haven't been sleeping well at night!!!

I'll let you know when I get it!

Dash, as long as you are planning on getting a standard transmission, why not go for the 6sp. You won't regret it if you do; however, you will probably regret it if you don't. And if you currently tow, or plan on doing so in the future, the 6sp sure does make it nice. Not to mention the extra ponies. :D

Hey NoCal-

Thanks for the info. Why wouldn't I like the 5 spd? Is it that 5th gear nut problem? I really wouldn't be pulling a whole lot. Just a boat or two, and maybe a car trailer every once in a while. Give me your input on this. The dealership that I am using said the H. O. and 6 spd is another 1K, is it worth it? Thanks for any info you may have!

Absolutely YES !!!! Just drive one of each. I think the reg. CTD and the N. V. G. 4500 is a very nice combo, but the H. O. and the N. V. G. 5600 is just about PERFECT ! I spent the extra cash on the upgrade and don't regret it. I only tow about 8500lbs. on occasion and thought the overbuild of the better parts would be a wise choice even though I did not need them. Besides you get a bigger clutch assy. with the six speed. Just my opinion but get the six speed if money permits... . Thomas

I have owned the auto, 5 speed and now have the 6 speed..... the only way to go is the 6er. Was pulling a three horse trailer with sleeping quarters while home on leave and had to laugh at how easy the machine went up and down hills. No droping out of cruise just kept chugging along at 65mph. Should have gotten it a couple of years ago.

You won't regret the HO/6spd.

Paul

You get better gear spacing with the 6-speed. And it's a tougher transmission overall--it weighs in at about 435lb!!!
