Help,

my buddy here at work is looking at a new truck. Found a left over 2001 CTD with an automatic and 4. 10 gears. Took it for a drive and liked it. He has a 28' trailer for the summer months and goes a good distance with it. My suggestion to him would be go for a 6 speed HO if he could, but it seems that you would have to order a new 2002 to get one of those. The price on this left over 2001 is pretty good (around 28K or so).

I told him to take a manual CTD for a test drive and he would change his mind, especially if pulling a trailer.

(He said he was also going to look at a Ford Powerstroke tonight just for a comparison).

For trailering, what do you folks think ... the leftover auto or a HO 6 speed? What are the prices of the new 2002 HO 6 speeds? Price is somewhat of a concern to my friend - also BOMBing in the future (another plus in the 6 speed column).

See sig below.

He may want to look around at dealers farther away to try to find a 2001 HO 6 speed. I ended up trading in a 5 sp 3. 54 SWB after 6 months to get what I really needed. It cost me some money to do it. My advise is to first make sure you get what you need, then go for price. It's cheaper than trading.

H/O 6 speed

Tell your buddy ;) to stay with a stick. I traded in a 5 speed for my 6 speed and I spend less time shifting. It will be easier to bomb before he has to buy a clutch. With the auto and an exhaust brake he will need to be able to lock up the transmission or it will be a useless part. The 6 speed will take less money out of his wallet and more money for bombing the engine. Sam

Check further

There are at least 4 - 2001 HO's within 30 miles of me. I feel sure you can find one if you check several different dealers. Iwent with the leftover 2001 to save some money myself.

Let me know if you are near Southwest Va and need some dealer names.

Well, my friend took a new F250 Diesel out for a test drive ... he said he didn't like it ... too stiff, rattled a lot, and he interior was not as "quality" made as the Dodge. Also he said that the Ford dealer had an attitude and wanted to know if he was going to buy the truck before he would let him test drive it! Also they would not move off the sticker price.

I remember the Ford dealers doing the same thing to me in the fall of 1996 before I bought my Dodge, that was one of the reasons I went to a Dodge before learning about how good the CTD was.

So my friend will be going with an auto, CTD shorty with all the toys. But still trying to get him to test a 6 speed.
