I just ordered a 50 gal. tank & tool box from transfer flow. I had one on my 98 gaser and really liked it. Transfer Flow is more money but you just fill and forget it.
ENJOY THE RIDE

Fellers, for what ever its worth,I already had a tool box so I had a fireman friend build a tank for under the toolbox then I rivited to the outside flange a piece of checker to match the box, I installed a ball valve then a spin on 5 micron filter and a 12v solinoid valve then to the 3/4 inch vent line on my main tank,I just finished it today and havent had a chance to fill or use it,my total cost of tank was 280 solinoid 38, filter and housing I had so I dont remember its cost, ball valve was 8 and all other accesories was about 50,the only other thing I will do if necessary is put a small fuel pump in,if flow is too slow. I also have my old tank-box in our add if you may be interested?

Mac: That is my other choice. Let me know how you like it. I’m worried the toolbox volume will be too small, but I’d really like to have 50 more gallons.

Whitmore: That sounds like a good solution for you; but for myself, I’m worried about the legal aspect and insurance coverage. One person told me that Transfer Flow was the only legal auxiliary tank and that I could loose my insurance if they found out I had one that did not pass all the DOT and legal stuff that Transfer Flow’s tanks have passed.

Here I sit on the pooper,
trying to give birth to another state trooper,
all I did was fart and pee,
so I guess I'll call it the D. O. T.

Puff, I just installed the 54 gallon replacement tank from Transfer Flow. Excellent fit, quality, & design. Details will follow in the next issue of TDR. Two thumbs up.

OK, OK it sounds great BUT, what is factory list on this tank? In addition, how far does it hang down below the frame? And, how close does it come to the driveshaft?

I'll be installing the TF 50 gal. tank and tool box combo next Thursday... looking foward to the extra gals. so I don't have to stop so often #ad

Joe. . did you keep the 30 gal. in bed tank also ?

I see alot of commercial trucks running with plain old tanks and simple plumbing. I know these guys see the DOT and pass. I think alot of the extra tank rules apply to gasoline not diesel and very large tanks.

We checked with our local DOT and fuel tank companies and found as long as tank was under 110 gallons it would not be a problem.

I see nothing wrong the commercial tanks.

We have several trucks set up as "Whitmore" desribed. Only difference is no additinal filter. Stock fitlration on these trucks could handle alot more then factory tank. W/O the extra filter is proably why it works in winter time on #2. Transferring into the stock tank utilizes all the trucks built in features, filtration, proper venting, no change or restriction to stock fuel inlet pressures. We weld up our tanks so they siphon the fuel directly off the bottom. No reason to drain anything off as it never has a chance to start and no water problems.

All tanks made of 1/8" tread plate steel. Mine is 6 years old and has passed over 10,000 gallons between the two trucks it has been in. Because no pump exist you can't over fill... . it just quits flowing. Flow is slow but it is enough to keep up with 8 mpg fuel consumption.

The Transfer Flow is the same distance from the driveshaft as the stock tank. Gary, I still have the 30 gallon in-bed tank. It was $736 plus $31 for an adapter kit to fit to 95-7 Rams (the 95-7s have a 1. 75" inlet hose instead of the 1. 5" that 98-up Rams use, and have the fuel return line spaced differently). I had to change my fuel sender anyway, thought it was a good time to fit a bigger food pouch for Sickly #ad
The Transfer Flow 54 gal. tank fits extended cab Rams with 8' bed.

Here's a stupid one,but here goes anyway.
Is there any market for the factory tank?I would have a heckuvva time just "chuckin" it,I think.

Check out Transfer Flow's web site. They have the 54 gal. tank on special for $661. 90.

My Transfer Flow tank came with a sticker for the door jamb that says it meets all specs and gives the CARB accreditation number. They do a lot of testing including dropping it to make sure it meets all structural integrity standards. It looks very professionally manufactured. I was surprised and very pleased with the fit. No hassling to get it into the place of the original tank. It uses two heavy duty straps to replace the thin stock straps, in the same frame positions. Thus, you don't drill the frame flanges for installation. I was worried about that since Dodge and other truck manufacturers warn against drilling the flanges. Another brand of aftermarket replacement tank I saw a while ago had mounting tabs welded to it and required drilling the flanges.

Can someone please answer the question posed by two of us now... how far below the bottom of the frame rails does the new Transfer Flow tank protrude?

Thanks in advance.

Hey John I would say it is at least 2" lower than stock, just a guess but probably not to far off. The tank looks very nice much better quality than others I saw Joe's this weekend. I am going to call Transfer Flow tomorrow to see if they can shortin it up for us guys with 2 speed spliters.
