i sold my 16 2500 6.4 because the auto trans drove me crazy ( i live in the mountains ). from what i hear the newer 8 speed in the newer 2500s with the 6.4 is a total game changer in a positive direction. currently drive a g56 2500. maybe ill get tired of shifting in a couple years? cheers comrade! good info b t w .

I say bring it on. I wonder what they’ll do about the torque ratings though. Surely Ram wouldn’t let Ford stay king of the hill in the torque wars?

Says it can handle "up to 1000 lb-ft of torque" so it's likely not going to replace the Aisin.

Right now yes - but do we know what ZF does to the transmission for this application?

I think I'd bet that this is the new HD transmission we get next year.

Nope, read the links, they claim it is superior over the 9-10 speed the others offer.

Edith says it isn't in this links, found it somewhere...

I'm definitely optimistic, just not getting my hopes up with that torque rating. While my Aisin is great, something that shifted a bit better and quicker would be very welcome.

I’m real happy with my 8HP in Midnite. They’re even standing up to the abuse of the Hellcat. If I’m understanding this right, this 8AP is basically a beefed up version of the HP.
The only strange thing I see is it looks like both PTO pads are being used already.
Transmissions have come a long way in the last 10- 15 years.

I've had ZF marine transmissions in 4 boats..... Never once had an issue of any sorts. I can only imaging they build an equally impressive truck transmission.

I would guess those are mounted pto's. If 6 spd's were a huge improvement over 4 spd's, I would guess 8 spd's is even better.

As far as 1000 lbs torque rating, that might be the "B sample transmission", the "C sample" is next, so maybe 1000+++.

I see the torque converter locks in 1st and is only used for launch and stop. Basically a standard transmission, woo hoo:D

I would also guess with 8 spd's, it will shift sooner in the rpm band, a good thing.

The only complaints I have generally seen on the forums is the ZF's cost to service. Apparently, the fluid is extracted from unicorns.

The 8HP in the Challenger T/A is sweeeeeeeeet.....love the paddle shifters and the transmission tuning when in Sport Mode. Of course.....having the Active Exhaust opened up in sport mode really allows the melodic 5.7L to sing sweetly.
