My state is not very gun friendly. I somehow feel they wouldn't want me to be able to fend for myself. Or at least possess the knowledge to do so. The price tag is a little much IMO, but what is ones family worth?

I believe I have the basics down packed, but I'd just like to go to the range and have someone give me pointers & such. I was "invited" to go to the sandbox as a PMC, so I suppose I'm on someones radar????

I'm not going tinfoil hat here, I just own a rifle and want to be certain I know how to use it to it's full effectiveness should the need arise.

Just because you hunt dont mean you are proficient at these skills.

I've heard good things about T1G. Pricey though..... :{

I'm a little concerned that I may go the bux for one of these classes, and not keep up with the program.

Not because of my inability to shoot/learn what theyre teaching, but because of my bad back.

Many of these type places have you pack for 3 days & carry it with you everywhere.

A while back I was looking into this and there was a class named "old & slow and bad eyes" or something like that. My eyes are still 20/10 to 20/5, but I am getting a little slow. :D

Yeah, it would sure stink to make all the arrangements and pay the money, and have problems during the course. My concern would be that my junky Bushmaster would break! :) I'm sure they have thought of all these concerns and have backup plans/firearms available. I'd bet you would do fine. Let's do it! (I wish).

Thunder Ranch / Gunsite have excellent civilian classes to teach marksmanship, speed and tactical reloads, and basic home defense tactics and tactical light use. I know the courses are a little expensive, but in this arena, you really get what you pay for. There are some others, but they are more intended for contractor PSD types. Scotty

I will say that TR and GS are two of the top tier schools you do pay for your training.

There are alot of people that would benefit from some structured trainging and practice.

If you live near Las Vegas you might try Front Sight. You can search the internet for cheap certificates and get a 4 day class for around a hundred bucks.

I would rather take a class from TR or GS but look at the money you're saving. You could take the class, pay for your ammo, travel and lodging for about the price of the class at either of the other two locations.

Im in NJ. Luckily not far from Pennsyltuckie. :-laf

Most places dont want to bother with classes in NJ, in fact there seems to be a lack of training classes taking place in the northeast.

crobertson1 most places have rental guns. They seem to be about $15 a day. Obviously you would be better off training with what you'll be using, but it's better than no training at all. :D
