Don't look too spectacular to me. Don't see why D/C cut out the crap and quit teasing us and bring out a 4500/5500 cab and chassis. Big whoop about a 3500 cab and chassis, I already have one of those, after you take off the stock bed and put on a nice aluminum flatbed..... what are they thinking. Just my 2 cents.

John

They weren't thinking ... thats the problem. The German perspective is "you Americans don't need da bigger truck. Da 3500 is big enough ... ya?"

They better cough up a 5500 with a 7 speed and a ISB with whatever HP, but it better have 860 lb/ft. torque ... and MAKE IT ***** SNAPPY HANS!!

That sure brings back 1973 when Detroit was trying to get the emisssions thing straightened out. It wasn't long before everybody realized that those engines were really hampered by emissions. This looks worse than that..... a particulate trap - that means from day 1 it starts to fill and IMO performance will also start to suffer... . NOBODY is saying anything about the lost efficiency that these engines will probably have due to these emissions..... I mean decrease in mileage... ...

Considering the fact that diesel will be injected into the exhaust stream for the sole purpose of cleaning the particulate trap and now the engines have a throttle plate to reduce air flow and enrichen the fuel-air ratio to create higher EGTs, no mileage will not be the same as what people are use to now.

But it seems like all people care about is a truck with bigger wheels and higher load rated tires with a bigger number slapped on the side of the truck.

Actually, according to the Cummins engineer we spoke with he was adamant that we'll see better mileage from the new engine because of the tighter controls. He was very honest about everything so I do not doubt him.

Steve, with everything you heard, and how you know TDR guys...

How hard would it be to work around all the sillyness?

EGR, P. F. , Throttle Body, etc. ? I would like to remove all that stuff,,, for off-road use only...

With 10k of parameters, I am going to think that working around all that stuff won't be as easy as the adjustable wastegate was on '04. 5 - '06 models.

It's going to be a nightmare. The performance vendors are going to have their work cut out for them. I suspect it will be quite some time before we see anything for these new engines.

well i think we can finally safely say that cummins will be sticking around for awhile and mercedes is out of the picture. No more mercedes rumors, now thats good to say and hear.

Not that mercedes is bad or anything but the cummins is just a wonderful motor, wouldn't you all agree. Cummins all the way.

Given the direction Cummins is going --particulate trap, EGR, etc--and Mercedes with urea injection into exhaust, we may get to a point where the Mercedes will get much better mileage. The EPA is warming up to the idea of urea, which allows much better tuning (timing) and no EGR, and no particulate trap. And much more bomber friendly! You could just hone the injectors, and the right injection timing is there, and no particulate trap to clog up.

Who knows, maybe in a couple of years you will beg Dodge to put a Mercedes in? Or maybe Cummins will follow suit. Depends on cost of urea vs. all the other junk, reliability, initial cost, etc.

That is not a refinery behind this truck, that is the new emission controls for 07. :D

What does everyone think of the new badges? I don't like it, I like the large font 2500 on the side of my door, it's different than the Ford & GM, now the badge is small and looks just like the Ford & GM. I wonder if the tailgate trim has changed for '07?

So, I wonder if they have a disclaimer about slide-in campers for the cab and chassis and I wonder if anyone will make a class C motorhome with it.

I would choose the urea injection (or whatever it's called) over all this EGR mess anyday. Though I won't want it in a MB. I am really considering going ahead and getting a new truck well before I need one just to not have to deal with all the complicated emissions crap on the 07 trucks

Urea is not being looked at until the 2010 emissions requirement comes along which further reduces the NOx level. NOx is reduced through an catalytic reduction process in gasoline engines. The process requires a constant air-fuel ratio, which gas engines have and diesel engines do not. Therefore urea must be used as a reduction agent in diesel engines.

The '07 engines, like the '04. 5 engines will have an oxidation cat, which reduces HC and CO. Right now Europe is using urea and having decent success with it, but they also have a market with ~50% of the vehicles on the road being diesel.

There is a reason the engine was made to a 6. 7 to get more power to keep the numbers up since you get more emission devices that rob power. . Geez, I about died laughing reading all the new junk that is on the 07 engine. Wow, 2 types of cats, cooled EGR, variable turbo, etc... more sensors, more stuff to break.

The new engine is about worthless. I thought the 3rd gen was bad enough but obviously things get worse... Now, you got sensors checking on those cats like on gas cars and wont be able to remove them without adding a special chip or watching a check engine light...

This world is taking a big old poop, year after year...

I'm not happy with all the emissions that will be added. However (since I am presently a SD owner) just think of the cluster uck will be on both the Ford and GM. At least you can still see the cummins under the hood. That is why I will not be purchasing another FORD and for FMC to bring a new model out and they could not figure out the 6. 0. Their (GM and FMC) stocks are really going to tank. Wait, they already are

No doubt dodge will have a superior drivetrain compared to ford or GM. However, the dodge is going downhill real fast.

If you are in need of something, go dodge, but try other options first like a used 1st 2nd or 3rd gen...

This 07 emissions is for the trash.

Thanks Steve, that's what I was thinkin'.

Is it just me or does Urea sound dimilar to urine?

Would be alot easier to refill a small tank with urine, than urea I bet. Would really turn the Dodge Ram into a Man's truck... :-laf

Thanks but if I buy it will be a new 06 or 07. I'd keep my early 99 before buying a used truck (I not putting down 1,2 or 3rd gen) My SD 7. 3 has been the best truck I have every owned. Not one problem and people can't believe it is a 99 when they see with just under 100k. Your also right that all the manufactors have gone down but thats the nature of the beast. However we would never had a truck producing 650 ft lbs of tq 10-15 hell 20 yrs ago.

Does anyone know exactly what urea is? I see it on the ramp at the airport I work at, and they spread it on the ramp to melt the ice so customers don't fall. It must be non-corrosive to use around aircraft, and it must be fairly cheap because the bankrupt airlines are using it!
