In the January 2002 issue of Western Horseman, Flowmaster has an ad for a new exhaust system. It is P/N 17346. Here is the info on the ad:

98-01 Dodge Diesel System

*Aluminized Steel Pipe and Muffler

* 4-Inch Single Side Exit W/5 inch Tip

*Reduced Back Pressure

*Stock Factory Style Hangers for Ease of Installation.

The picture of the system looks good.

I went to their website and did not find any such part number in their P/N Search. The only one in the application guide is a 3. 5" system with a different part number.

Does anybody know any more specifics or have one of these systems?

I am planning on calling their tech line this afternoon (After the west coast wakes up) to get more info. I will post what I find out!

Had one installed on my Dad's 97 yesterday. 4" turbo back. It really made a differance. The only concern I have is a harmonic resonance around 2000 rpm that is a little annoying. My BD system does not do that. Dad is 85 and hard of hearing so he may not pick up on it. My mother on the other hand hears everything. I called the shop on the way home and made them aware of the noise and told them that if my folks complain, we would have to change... ... ... ... ... .....

Is that the new 4" Flowmaster system you had installed on that truck? If it is did you get it at a local dealer? How much $$$ ?

I'm not far from you.

The only thing to be cautious of is that it is not a chamber muffler, like the Flowmaster gasser mufflers are. This will hurt performance. Actually I'm sure it would still be better than stock, but not as good as a flow through muffler.

HERE IS THE POOP!

GREAT NEWS AND PRICE until Flowmaster Close of business (4 P. M. California time) on Tuesday January 15th!!!

This system is BRAND NEW. Nothing but prototypes for dyno time have left the factory for this system as of Noon Today! Here is the system particulars:

* 4" Aluminized, Mandrel bent pipe from Turbo to Tailpipe Exit (not cat-back, full system)

* Uses all Factory Hangers

* 4" in / 4" out Delta Force RACE Muffler. They are well aware that back pressure (or lack of) is the main factor in a good system for a turbo exhaust system. This is the same muffler you would get if you were running an 800 hp drag car with 4" pipes!!!

*5" POLISHED STAINLESS TIP welded on!

Here is the best part..... The system has a MSR of $800. Jobber price is $602, But until January 15th if you call Flowmaster (as instructed below)... ... $481. 60 and FREE SHIPPING! With the Polished Stainless Tip, I think this is a bargain! This limited time offer is a "show special" price carried over from several Horse shows in which Flowmaster was targeting "haulers"!

They don't expect to start shipping these units for 2-3 weeks because of delays with the Tips. If you order now, using Visa or MC, your card will not be billed until the system ships.....

Here is what you need to do:

Call 1-888-FLOWMASTER (1-888-356-9627)

Ask to speak to DAN (EXT. 451) or Phil (EXT. 450)

Tell them that you want to order P/N 17346

Mention that you want the Show Special Price of $481. 60

This is only good until January 15th, so if you want one, you need to call.

I mentioned to him that I was going to post on the TDR website and he talked with his supervisor and cleared it so FLOWMASTER KNOWS I HAVE POSTED THIS.

BTW, Mine is ordered!!!!!!:D :D

My Jardine 4" system, including delivery and the 5" stainless tip, was more than $40 less than the Flowmaster. Personally, I don't think you'd want the tip welded on until you get the system installed. The last thing MDW and I did when we installed the Jardine system was to move the tip around until it looked right to me and then hit it with 3 spot welds where it slips on the pipe.

JM2CW... . ya pays yore money and ya takes yore choice! :)

When I checked, shipping from Jardine to Michgan was ~$35.

I agree with Rusty about his comments of the tip.

I wasn't trying to bash the Flowmaster exhaust system or the price. I was just presenting another alternative.

jelvington: I had it installed at Mac's on Hwy377, Whiskey Flats. 817 443 3828... ..... I just called Mac, it was a Flow Pro conglomeration he installled on the truck. He said the Flow Master system is LOUD!

muddy the water

well, i'll confuse things further--i have considerably less than $400 in my self built 4" turbo back system, and i think i paid too much for my 4" straight thru truck muffler. i only have a little bitty 4" stainless steel tip on mine, though  i get told repeatedly how nice it sounds, and no drone... ... .

As long as Flo-Pro was mentioned:

I talked with a gentleman at a small exhasut shop (they were Powerjoke drivers) and he said they had a Flo-Pro, 4" turbo to tail, mandrel bent system they could get me for $340 + installation. I don't know anything about Flo-Pro quality or the muffler, but the price was good.

Herb, don't ya know that extra 1" of tip diameter is worth at least, say, 150-200 BHP? Hey, just ask all the kids running these Honda Civics with the 600 BHP exhaust systems on the streets. ;) :D

4" exhaust

Isn't most of the stock exhaust aready 4" except for the muffler area.

Can't you just replace the muffler with a 4" and have a 4" exhaust system?

Or does an after market ofer something else other than 4" or am I missing something?

Thanks

Stock exhaust Bob

So far.

For the money, I would purchase a Jardine system and request a resonator with it. They charged me 35. 00 for the resonator. Jardines use Magnaflow muffler and resonator so it has a great sound. My exhaust has a lower tone, but pretty much sounds like stock until I get to 2000+ RPM's. I personally don't like the hollow sound of Flowmasters. Also, Jardine has a lifetime warranty on their exhaust.

Disclaimer: not associated with Jardine.

My 2 cents...

Charles

stock exhaust

brobeson, actually, only a small portion of the stock exhaust is 4". the downpipe from the turbo to the resonator is 3", the inlet on the resonator is 3", but the outlet is 4", small piece of 4" pipe to the 4" inlet muffler, then a 3" outlet on the muffler, 3"pipe over the axle, then ends in a 4" "tip".

First of all, let me start by saying that I in NO WAY was bashing or suggesting that the Flowmaster System was Better than the Jardine's. I just happened to find out about the Flowmaster System and wanted to share on this site.

Secondly, I have had good service and luck with Flowmaster products ON GASSERS, so I guess it excited me a little to hear about the new system. Since no one here has heard it (including me) I may get it and it may sound like Crap, but then I will post it and we will all know! Then, if he will sell me one, I will order a Jardine system and start over.

I hope I did not come across wrong on this string. I just thought someone here needed to try it and I was willing to be the test goat... ..... :p

Haney,

Good luck with the Flowmaster. Let us know how you like it and how the install went.

Exhaust are a matter of personal preference anyway. You may love the sound of the Flowmaster while others will hate it. As long as you are happy with your $$$ spent.

Also if you don't like the sound, about the only thing you will need to start swapping around is mufflers. No need to shell out big bucks on another entire new system.

The price is good now, but I don't know how many systems they are going to sell (at least to TDR members) at the $800 retail, or even the $602 jobber.

Good luck,

Ryan
