To save some of us from potential frustration, it would be great if someone could post up detail instructions to hand to our dealer/service guy so that we can get this high idle feature enabled.

Also, the steps of how to turn it on and then off once the feature is enabled.

Thanks in advance,

Ken

Ken,

I think that if the star scan tool has the correct software version installed it is very easy. Prior to having the correct software my dealer was baffled. Once in there it only took a couple of minutes and any tech should be able to enable the feature.

Once the high idle has been enabled by the scan tool, operation is simple as well. The trans must be in park. Then turn the cruise control on and push the set button. This will raise the rpms to about 1000. You can then use the accel/decel cruise buttons to raise or lower the rpm between 1000 and 1500. As soon as you touch the brake to engage a gear, the idle will drop to normal. Or you can turn the cruise off and it will also drop.

OK, thanks. So I guess the first question I'll ask them is do they have version 6. 03 for their STAR system then I'll go from there. Thanks for the on/off steps as well.

Good to know that they can change for the larger sizes too! I wasn't sure, they wouldn't let me play with the start scan... . chickens :-laf

Will the 04 accept the 'High-Idle' program? I showed my buddy how mine worked yesterday and he wanted to know if his Dodge would do that?

I'm sure it can be done... . but can the dealer do it with programing?

It will work on an '04 only if it is an automatic. If it is, the dealer needs to load the program and enable it. Shouldn't be any big deal.
