Turned off some front page features for testing

Hey Steve - I've been travelling around Europe (hence the lowerer profile these past few months) and now playing catch-up. The new look on the website got me stumped initially, but after having read your guidelines, I'll persevere.....

As always, appreciate your efforts.

Cheers!!

The new forum software is up and running as of 5:00 am eastern time.

All new changes take a while to get used to, but all in all it looks good. The one suggestion I'd make would be to change the default for "Remember me". Some of us use public compter labs and don't always remember to uncheck the box when logging on. If the administrative software allows it, I would suggest defaulting this to unchecked, and let people who want to be remembered check the box.

Changes

If the issue was security, I`m all for improvements. But change just for changes sake is what got us the 3rd gen styling. It ain`t for me, but to each his own. Being functionally illiterate on the computer ( and elsewhere, for that matter ) I will need to get used to it. I just need the grandkids to help explain it to me. DK. :-laf

Steve,

I am not able to delete my subscriptions. I check the box on the right of the subscription, select delete in the drop down menu and click on go. I tried it yesterday and today. I have used both IE 5. 5 and Netscape 7. 1.

A couple people have reported that problem and I can replicate it here as well. I can't find anything about it on the vB support page so I've submitted a support ticket to vB. They are supposed to get back to me within 48 hours. For now what you can do is if you want to unsubscribe from a thread click on that thread, then when the thread comes up pull down the thread tools menu to "unsubscribe from this thread" - it works.

I've figured out what the problem is and have a possible fix for it. I want to wait to see what vB's tech support has to say before I implement it though. I want to see if this is a known issue and they have a known fix for it and if not whether they think the fix I've come up with will cause any problems. I'm 99. 9% sure my fix will work though.

We're going to give this a try and see how many complaints we get since two of you have requested it. My guess is that it's going to be a support nightmare but we'll see.

This should be fixed now.

This new program sure seems it is alot slower reacting. Maybe it is on my end. I have Verizon DSL. Anyone else experiencing slowness?? In the program that is.

From the very first post on this thread (which is linked at the top of every forum asking everyone to read it):

The server will be building the search index over the next week or so. This means that when you do searches you will NOT be getting all the information until it's done (approximately 1 week from now - it's a LONG intensive process with the amount of data we have on here). Current posts will be added to the search index as they are made - it's all the old posts that will take time to build in. It also means the server will be slower than normal while it goes through this process. There is also a post cache that will take about a week to fill out which will increase performance as it builds.

For you Mac guys having problems scroll down to the bottom of any of the forum screens and in the lower left change your style to "Mac test style". This is a temporary fix that seems to be working. The problem is with the pull down menus at the top of the screen. On the Mac test style I have replaced those pull down menus with the old style menus. That will work only on the forums though - the rest of the site still has the drop down menus. I have an email into the menu generation software company that I used to generate those menus to try to find a solution for the drop downs.

Do you mean the classifieds section? Point at Website features up at the top and the menu will drop down - the different sections of the website are all in there.

Steve...still having to log in

I changed to Mac Test Style, but it didn't fix my having to sign in every time. Remember me box is checked, cleaned cookies, lowered secrurity settings.

iMac OX 10. 3 IE 5. 2 for Mac

thanks
