Guns, Bows, Shooting Sports, and Hunting firearm vs. weapon

When I was on my little overnight trip that turned into 5 days out I wished I had something like this to shoot so I could EAT the other picture. MRE's are not bad but the bird would have been a spirit boost. SO I BOUGHT ONE. HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME JULY 6 Not to early IS IT??:-laf... ... ... Henry Survival Rifle.

Ditto, BIGNASTY bro! Look out small game!! I get a feeling you'll be shooting the crap out of that..... Are you gonna try to get that made into any prosthetics? :-laf

Thanks Greg it's a little early but never to early for a new toy right!!!

HH I never thought of that I could run the barrel out the heal and carve some toes for sights and put a fold out trigger clip in the stump cavity :-laf:-laf

When I was in the hills for a few days it would have been nice to pop a bunny or one of the spruce grouse the birds are bigger than one would think. Have to add some poultry seasoning along with some maraschino cherry sauce maybe some wine to the survival kit. :-laf

BILL I kind of think it will be. I have a bunch of guns but when I was out in the mountains what am I going to do shoot a bunny with something that would destroy the games purpose TO SURVIVE. I like the fact that it folds up so small I can put in one of the panniers on the mules and take up almost NO ROOM.

Patriot I have a ruger and its fun to play with. I bought mine at a pawn shop because I knew that I could not leave it alone. One can buy so many different stocks and barrels for it and do ALL the work on it yourself. I sit on the deck in the spring and summer and pop bunnies in the yard that are eating veggies that the wife had set out.

As for the NOT BIRTHDAY I had to come up with something!!! So I DO NOT THANK YOU VERY MUCH :-laf

I had something like that maybe 35 years ago (?) (. 22). It wasnt the most accurate thing in the world, but it was kind of a fun toy.

I have tried different kinds of ammo it does pretty good with CCI. Its not like im going to be shooting anything at distance anyway mainly for rabbits and Spruce Grouse tree squirrels just in case I run short on MRE's when I play in the woods and dont want to go home right yet. And it stashes away in almost no space.

BigNasty,

Yeh, I remember I used to take mine backpacking with me. Got my share of grouse. That was helpful when the fishing wasnt as good. That was back in the days when you could go up to the alpine lakes and be the only one there. The last time I went (years ago), the trail was almost like an interstate highway with all the people (who had moved here from cal and the east coast and decided they liked the mountains)

The only problem I had with mine was that every time I assembled it, it changed the windage just a bit.

I think that change in windage may have been corrected. When I bought it I thought the samething have to re-sight it every time. But the gun store said that had been taken care of with a key on the receiver and slot on the barrel.

As for the hikers, backpackers they fall off pretty quick on the trails up here. The trail head start and right from the git go ITS UP HILL. By the time they make the first pass our animals have us two passes further up trail. And BEARS ARE a BIG problem for the unaware or uninitiated. It doesn't take to many sightings of GRIZZ or BLACKIE before they have second thoughts :-laf

I dont carry in the Nat Park but other places I pack 2 pieces of artillery and I still have second thoughts.

Yeh, I got mine from my dad. And he got it in a trade for something (or at a garage sale). So when I got it maybe 35 years ago, it was probably pretty old then.

Hey NASTY, try some Federal Auto Match... It has a thicker rim, to take up the headspace. It usually makes 'em a little more accurate. Wally World usually has it, reasonable priced.

Now that im back ill give it a try HH its not bad but im not shooting at any great distance anyway. As for the price its not going to get a bunch of use . I dont like to carry rimfire ammo. Stuff gets banged around allot on trail so I will need to find something to protect the ammo from bumps. Popped a few mountain chickens when we were out. F&G guy asked how we kept the chicken cold this far out and that the spices that the wife used made it taste like Mountain Grouse. :-laf Told him that the local store was just a phone call away and the delivery guy was one tuff hombre to run 40 miles to get it to us.

BWAAAA HA HA HA HA HA..... the wires are still attached!!! Did you get a dial-tone when you picked it up?!?! Did an operator answer?!?! Or an old guy up at the top of some ridge that's been up there for 25 years as no one told him his job had been replaced by some kid watching a monitor via sattelite?!??! Or the guy just lived up there after they shut it down as he never was able to afford anything else on a F&G budget??! He he he he he he he he :-laf

It still worked HH as far as I know I didnt ring it up but I was watching a TV show one night. It was to honor a long time MT packer and he talked about it and the cabin and farm equipment that were left in the valley. Its a pretty good show if your into that kind of thing most on the site are not but to some its good to remember where/how/when/why. When on our trip we rode the same valley and spent a couple of nights in it so I went to find it and did. F&G warden said I dont have to ask if you have a TAG do I ? even thou it wouldn't be in season anyway would it? CHICKEN HUNTING TAG ? so it is chicken damn good chicken too. :-laf he had me going for a min. I could just see all the gang and equipment going to the state and me to jail. Kind of strange he and I had our knee replacements done the same time.

HA!! My whole gang got put in jail one night in Stephenville, Tx. I was in a cell, my horse was in a locked stall, and my dog slept in the jail, down the hall from me, at the book-in desk... ... little SOB!! The cute girl was working up there..... he always had good taste... .....

BIG, I can relate. I have friends in the Texas Parks and Wildlife department..... luckily, they like to hunt as much as I do, but don't have a place to go, so they can go with me; IF they just happen not to "see" some of the things that happen from time to time..... If I "accidentally" shoot a turkey hen, or a Jake, or one of them happens to hit the fence while flying so hard it causes their head to explode like a bullet hit it, I don't let the meat go to waste. Turkey and dumplins' is a fine meal shared with friends!!! (or by yourself... . :D) A few green beans, or some squash, and it's a one way ticket to a full-stomach coma!!! And in turn, I show them where the best duck hunting in the county is at, as well as look the other way when they break out the thermal imaging for hunting hogs.....

Hey, did you take the grouse... . er, prairie chicken with your little . 22? Just wondered if you put it to use, yet...

Mountain Grouse those are the bomb I didn't really ever think about eating them I just found it faster to fire up the MRE's and go to bed. But the wife likes to cook in the outdoors when we camp she really out did her self this time. We ate like KINGS the bread's pies and main course food were the best shes done in a while. We weren't hunting and she really didn't like to see or be that close to what we were doing after she seen it the first time. We were in the tent that night and she asked ARE YOU REALLY OK WITH THIS??? Not really but mine is the easy part i'm not going in the hole to rope up the bears and dope them up. The gang and I just pull them out and if it goes sideways I release the rope and man the cannon. I MADE IT ABUNDENTALY CLEAR IF THAT BEAR COMES OUT AND EVEN SO MUCH AS TWICHES WATCH THE HELL OUT BECAUSE LEAD IS GOING TO FLY. So they made quite sure that it was out. I will post some pics when they say I can they have to look at things because of all the green peace types and dont want anything to cry about. But the food was fantastic
