Ammo question

amc 401 V8 w/issues

Even with a CCW, you still have to go thru the background check. It's just the Brady waiting period that you are exempted from. I've bought two 9mm Berettas in the last year had to go thru the background check on both. Background check is a Federal requirement and not waivable by state laws. The backgound check is done on-line or on the phone and won't delay your getting your piece unless it turns up the fact that you shouldn't have it!

I've owned handguns for 40+ years. Had a CCW for 20. I've owned and carried many brands and calibers. I don't care for the Glocks. Too light of a trigger pull, no external safety. I've read about more than one incident of someone shooting themselves thru the ass cheek with a Glock. For safe carry, it's gotta be in a holster that covers the trigger guard. Also, DON'T stick your finger into the guard until you are ready to fire. A good inexpensive easily concealed 9MM is the Kel-Tec P11. Holds 11 rounds of 9mm and is smaller than a snub nose smith.

I don't own, nor will I ever own any Ruger product. Ruger's company health insurance won't pay off on motorcycle accidents. A legal activity. It's perfectly OK for it to pay off on injuries sustained while you are driving drunk, an illegal activity. No one who rides should own a Ruger. Got my first Harley at 14, in 1958.

I alternate my carry between a Kel-Tec . 32 in my right hip pocket, with a piece of plastic between the gun and the outside. The plastic keeps the piece from printing on my pocket and showing. I carry it muzzle up. Just stick my finger into the trigger guard, pull up and pivot into place. The plastic is just a piece of detergent bottle that I cut to fit the inside of a jeans pocket. Works fine and was free. Other carry pieces depending on clothing required are a Sig 220 . 45 (Navy Seals and AF Special Ops carry these) and a Colt Commander enhanced. Can't carry one of these big un's while wearing a T shirt and shorts.

JOIBO!

I will ask my dad the specifics of the CCW since he is in the middle of getting his. He has all the paperwork and has gone to some of the classes.

Does anyone like Taurus? I am not really sure where to stand on them. My dad has a Taurus 9 mm and its ok to shoot but not too sure.

I had a Taurus PT99 in 9mm. Very reliable but the trigger was sub par IMHO. I replaced it with the Sig P226 and love it. I would buy a used Sig before a Taurus. I hear their revolvers are good but I tried one at a gun store recently that had a nasty crunch in the DA trigger. I think it was just a quality issue but resale on a Taurus is pretty poor if you ever wanted to sell it.

Sig fan here too. My carry and go to piece is a Sig P228 in 9mm. I prefer the balance of the 228 over the 226 - personal preference. The more I shoot that gun the more I like it.

Notice the Lasermax shining on the switchblade

Here's the baby . 45 Glock. The Lasermax is great for quick night time target aquisition. I have averaged it out to be 1. 00 " +- @ 25 feet

I usually shoot 2-3 times a week at our local outdoor pistol/rifle range. The two large caliber semis I own are a Taurus PT 101-40 s&w and the other is a Beretta 9000s-40 s&w with Trijicon Night Sights..... of the two, I would take the Taurus any day over the Beretta in a self-defense situation..... the accuracy is far superior. . it has never jammed while on the range... . the Beretta has a few times..... and that is one too many times for a conceal and carry application...

I also have a Taurus 607-357/38 caliber 7 shot revolver... . It has adjustable rear sights just like the PT 101... It has the 6" barrel. . the only way to conceal it is with a shoulder holster... I used it to get my Minnesota CCW permit..... It is veeeeerrrrrrryyyy accurate... got 99% on the shooting range :D 7 yds. /15 yds. /25 yds.

Where I took the test cost $60 for the 8 hour course... then I marched down to the local Sheriff's office, presented them with the certificate that I passed the test, aaaaannnnnnnddddd coughed up $100. 00 :( which gets you thru 5 yrs. to carry and conceal. . (If you want to conceal it).

For good deals on Sig Sauers check these guys out:KY imports

I have bought a used S&W 5906 and a friend bought a Sig P226 from these guys that was a police trade-in. Most of the used guns they sell are trade-ins. The condition is usually good but they have a lot of holster wear from being carried a lot.

I prefer the H&K pistols. I have a USP . 40 and it's a dream to shoot. The only complaint I've heard is that the stock trigger shouldn't be used for match shooting. I know they are a little pricey, but I think they're worth it.

Here's my babies:

For my money, I don't think it gets better than a springfield armory 1911, you pick whatever model thereof you want. With 1911 pattern pistols you can go from mild to wild. Pistolsmithing on them is a snap also. You can leave it bone stock or fit up as many wilson combat accessories as you want/need. Plastic frame guns are ok, but none have really fluttered my putter. Overall, go with what is comfortable to you /your hand. You can become accurate with almost any handgun (almost any is stressed), but if it is a comfortable fit from the get go, you're halfway there already. Pistol accuracy is 60% the shooter, 30% the handgun, 10% the ammunition in my opinion.

Good to hear from so many enthusiasts.

FWIW, my local gun shop a few years ago told me that when Berreta finished their original order for the govt. 9mms, they sold the tools and dies to Taurus. At that time, the two guns looked identical. There were no recalls on the Taurus copy of the 92 and 99s, since they did different heat treating methods on the slides. The military ones from Beretta cracked, allowing the slide to come off the frame, which killed some GIs. Also, new Berettas came with a 90 day factory warranty. Then, the Taurus had a lifetime warranty. If I was looking to buy, I would look hard at Taurus. My brother bought one of thier revolvers, and it had a nice trigger, so I guess there are good and bad ones everywhere. My carry piece is a Kimber Ultra Carry in SS. 3" barrel, . 45 and my large hand fits on the grip, no little finger wrap. It is plenty accurate and has a nice target trigger, with rounded edges everywhere, so it carries nicely about anywhere you want to put it. I use a SOB holster most of the time. SOB=Small Of the Back. I can sit most anywhere, in vehicles without it bothering me, yet it looks like I am reaching for my wallet when I go for it. Before the Kimber, I used to carry a full sized Colt 1911 . 45 in a high ride hip holster, that my brother used to borrow for undercover work. That was a cheap Unvle Mikes nylon holster that the belt went over, pulling it tight to your side.

I had the Taurus PT99.

The story I heard is that Beretta built a factory in Brazil and after XX years companies turn the factories over to the Brazilian government. That is where Taurus got it's start.

The safeties are different between the Berretta-on the slide and Taurus-on the frame. My PT99 was a very reliable gun but the trigger left a lot to be desired. I like the 1911 action much better and my Sig is a lot smoother.

I have two Beretta 99's. One is a very early bright blue finish Italian made 99 (no suffix). The other is a current American made 99F. The early one has the safety on the frame, like a 1911 and the mag release is on the lower right corner of the left grip. Seems like the Tuarus, having the frame mount safety is like the early Berettas. The trigger action on both is very nice. My Commander Enhanced is the best I own with the Sig 220 coming in second.

Here is mine.

Double action, 9mm. like somebody else said, it don't break the bank. With me shooting it, its real accruate.

I recommend the 480 ruger for protection, you don`t even have to shoot it, just whip it out and all the bad guys take off running and you don`t have to be a good shot, just point and fire and if you don`t hit them or it, the concussion well knock them down. and as far as cost goes for plicking, pretty cheap, I shot mine 12 times in 1 hour couldn`t shoot it any more cause my hand was numb. Good exercise too, just packing that thing around for awhile burns come calories. Hunter

If I was real young (like late teen-early twenty) I think that I'd only buy collectible guns. Pistols made by Colt, rifles by Winchester, like that. European made Walthers,. . like that - old names. Then I'd have guns to shoot when young and a nice chunk of invested change when older.
