Off Roading Missing Steve St. Laurent on the dunes

Competition Sled Pull, PA Friday, July 30th & Sat, 31th

Rams... . I know it has Hemispherical chambers, what I was getting at is that it is not a true Hemi (as in the muscle car) Not saying you do it but we have guys out here that figure since it says HEMI then there is no way a stinkin' diesel can touch them. All they get is a look at the rear bumper.

Not saying you do that, but they are out there and it is getting more prevalent. Don't get me wrong, I want my wife to get a MAGNUM with the HEMI in it, but she wants a diesel. Didn't mean for you to take offense or take it the wrong way. Should have worded it better on my part.

I spanked one last night. I didn't even realize I was racing till I heard it start to scream. Then the smoke signals started. I had my foot pretty far into it due to my valet switch. I reached over... flip... . all over. He even has the racing stripes on it! He gave me a thumbs up and asked me what I had done to it. I almost said it was stock..... the Torque Diesel Performance stickers on the wing windows gave it away... .

The Hemi 2500s I've watched run will not run with a 2500 truck of the same weight and style that is packing a 600 cummins. Their about 2 to 3 tenths slower in the 1/4 mile. A reg cab shortbed 2wd should outrun a heavy diesel truck when stock. Although a new 600 with just a TSTCR will outrun 95% of any of the new hemi trucks out there. Even a large percentage of the Quad Cab 1500 4X4 hemis are only running 16 to 16. 50 in the 1/4. Not very impressive for the **** poor mileage you have to put up with. Now the 300C and the Magnum are a different story and the new 300C in SRT-8 trim with the 6. 1 Hemi and 425hp would be nice.

Tim, we were just in town about three weeks ago. More graduations. We stayed at Lake George RV park. I'll be up again next year, have another niece graduating from Queensbury (SP?). And again later that summer for a family reunion.

Tim, im up there quite a bit, probably at least 4 more times this summer, pm me with your number,or ill send smoke signals off of Rt9:D

No offense taken Russ. And no, it's not a HEMI as in the muscle car era. Now if Dodge would unleash it, (the potential is there), it might be a different story.

Jim

Oh I agree the potential is there for all of them. I am the first to admit when I bought my truck I was bragging about it for months and that was stock. Swore I would never need anything more. Then I straightpiped it, guages, BHAF... . well you get the picture. It all went downhill from there. Just glad my wife thinks it's "cute" when I add something, she likes the smile on my face.

As for her. I want her to get the magnum with a hemi. Well, cuz I want one. But she wants a 2wd Cummins. Can't really tell her no, Can I?

lets see air filter,ez=around $500 (actually less if you shop around). 4 for 4 on hemis. then came the 4 inch. but they have duals so we spent money there, both of us. with the injectors(only 40 hp)@ $800 they are only wishing. twins in the future are they dreaming, probably. moral for 500 bucks a hemi is no problem ,as for the extra money on the motor its like 5,000,not 10,000. do the math it only takes 114,000 miles and the fuel savings will pay for the engine all while beating up the hemi. that includes the extra on oil changes the cummins has. I say to each their own. keep on beating them hemis guys. got to keep the cummins respect,LOL.

Mods must make a big difference to these CTD. Mine is basically stock and it is NOT fast. My V6 dakota with 180,000 miles will walk away from it. Maybe it's the 33x12. 5's. Sometimes I find it hard to belive you guys. Not saying you're lying, just my truck is freaking slow. Which is alright, I bought it to pull my race car.

Two short stories. My truck vs my co-workers. I have a 305 2003 shortbed 4wd with 4. 10 , 48RE. My co-worker has a 2003 Hemi and unsure of gear ratio. He pulls me ever so slightly when floored. He does have the 20" rims though. I just show him my fuel receipt and mileage ;)

While down in Nags Head, NC last week I had some Chevy Cavalier with ground effects and a big exhaust pull next to me on a bridge. I had my wife in the truck and she gave me the ok so I pulled him hard. He tried to avoid me at the light but his friend riding shotgun yelled out, "whatcha got in that thing a hemi" with a thumbs up. I replied "nope just a 6 cyl" hahaha...

Oh one more. A couple of weeks ago these two guys in a Ford Focus SVT start playing around. So I pull next to them and let them wind out. It was pretty much dead even except I had 500# of concrete in the bed. At the next light he yells over to my wife that we cheated. When she said how he said "cause yer s#it has a turbo in it, it even says so on the front of the truck" She yelled back, yeah but it is a full size truck 4 times heavier then your car. He pulled off into a 7-11 ;)

Ok with all this talk of who beat what, what do you guys run in the quarter mile? I'm new to drag racing diesels and I'm wondering what is "normal" for a bombed CTD. My bone stock 69 charger with a 383 and 3. 23's with an open diff ran 15. 0 @91mph. So what do you guys run?

CFast,

I also bought my truck to tow and its bone stock. Couldn't beat a Yugo in a drag race (maybe that says something about my shifting skills!;) ) But there are guys on here that have seriously fast trucks. Fast enough to make your charger a memory! Someone will chime in with actual ET's.

Dave

ps. my '70 442 W-30 455 ran low 13's

My truck is slow compared to many on here. My best time is only a 13. 20 @ 101. 5mph. I've seen many 12 second passes with daily driven trucks. The most impressive ALL AROUND truck i've personally seen is Snow man's truck (He's the one who started this thread). It's gone 111mph in the quarter which should easily be low 12's. (soot interfered with the timing lights so he didn't get a time that run). He tows his pretty large camper with it, drives it every day, plows snow all winter, etc.

Chris

are most of the low et trucks 4wd? 12's and 13's are better than what I was thinking. Great, now how am I going to pay for mods to this truck, my duster, and my charger. :D

Most (not all) of the faster trucks are auto trans. 4wd helps these trucks get moving. I know of a lot of fast 2wd trucks as well, but it seems to take a lot of work to get them down the track in a hurry.

Chris

CFast,

Went to your readers rigs to see if you had a pic of your cars. I've been trying to talk an aquaintance of mine out of his '71 340 Duster, but no luck yet!

ps. sorry to get off topic

Dave

Yep, Know of a 2000 2wd quad cab that runs 13. 20s on street tires with the very large fifth wheel hitch, toolbox, and hula skirt still attached. He also has 242,000 miles. I put an EZ on a truck a couple of weeks ago for a guy. He couldn't stop grinning and shifting gears for 2 hours afterwards. Now he wants gages and injectors. Once you start it never ends until you are either bankrupt, divorced or both.

Once you start it never ends until you are either bankrupt, divorced or both. so true

14. 50@ 93 before injectors just an ez and air filter. yes these trucks can fly I seen HVAC(god rest his sole) run 13. 20's years ago. the fastest I have seen high 12. 20's,whoops I had 4 inch exhaust as well.
