Well after a week or so of scratching my head, I pulled the trigger and getting an injection pump put in today. I found one locally for $1275, although if anyone needs one I would suggest contacting Piers, he came in with the best price. I bought it locally because it was"here" and then I can have some kind of support if its not the problem completely. Everything "points" to it tho, its jsut odd because people say they usually just "quit" and mine runs halfway decent, just can't go over 2200rpm, or 2400rpm WOT, no black smoke anymore, and topspeed on the highway is 72mph. Fuel filter was changed, fuel appears "good", no gelling or icing, lift pump pressures are "great". The funny thing is I went without driving my truck for a week, and when I drove it again, even tho it ran like crap I still love it. The two screws Bill K mentioned are being checked right now.

Part number for the Pump I got is 0-470-506-027 Anyone else replace theirs recently? I was told this is the "latest" revision? Since there is no core charge on the "old" pump, anyone have an idea what to do with the darn thing? Or do I have an exspensive paperweight?

*crossing fingers*

Keep us posted KatDiesel. I hope the new pump cures your problems. They seem to be more severe than the rest of us with the bucking/shudder problem. I'm getting real tired of the b/s problem and buying a new injection pump is looking better all the time. Good luck.

If I were you

I would send your old pump to Bill K or Lawrence for an examination.

They are researching VP44 failures

Ya I know, Bill is the first to admit hes not an expert on the VP44. He sent Stefans pump to Lawrence, which is where mine will prolly end up if I can't do nuthing with it around here. I just wish DD's pump was available to the "general public" when I needed it. I'm curious to see if it was going south... ... but like I said in my above post, everything points towards it..... and then the metal I found in there, figured got nuthing to lose by replacing it other then some $$$.

If anyone else has a dead VP44 that's collecting dust in the corner of the garage I'd sure like to get my hands on one.

Dead VP44

Just replaced my VP44, was planning on disecting the old one myself, but hey it's for sale, what will you give me for it?

I'd call DD. I believe they said the old pumps are trash, because when they die, they usually take out the internals and damage the unit for good.

Dunno yet. I went to bed and slept (since I had to work last night) and I slept until past their closing time. I did get a message the two screws Bill K mentioned are tight on my pump. I won't know anything until Monday now.

I have to try to get some sleep and be somewhat rested for work. Everytime I goto work and sit down, I have people lives and millions of dollar worth of equipment running that can be destroyed in an instant if I make a mistake.

KAT DIESEEEEEEL!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? Where did you go? Did it live or not? I know all the lives and millions of dollars that depend on you, but is it running? What was the problem? INFO man, we need INFO!!!!!!!!

If you don't mind...

Kat,

If you don't mind me asking, what do you do for a living?

I wish you all the best in getting the Cummins Hummin'!:D :D
