Brake Rotor Advice

Well I ordered my DD2s today cananyone tell me how long it might take for me to install them and what problems I might encounter. Also I understand I will have to take off the valve cover. A silly question but does anyone have pictures of the motor with the valve cover removed.

They will come with super instructions with lots of pictures. First time took me about 3 hr, several breaks and a few sodas. Did it in the big shop, no shade and 95* ambient. Actually took longer to get all the tools together. After the valve cover is off start with doing one injector, that way you will have 5 others to use as a reference if you get confused.

It is not difficult, just read the destructions a couple of times and look at the pictures.

Be careful!

Just a word of advice, Wolfgang. If you can, have a spare intake plenum gasket handy. The instructions say you "should" be able to reuse the old one. However, mine was adhered to the plenum and the intake and there was no way of saving it. I ended up having to make a gasket from scratch, using gasket material, due to my remoteness and unavailability of Dodge parts. It has seemed to work well, so far.

If it hadn't been for that set back, the project probably would have taken about 2 1/2 hours. That was with 2 guys. If you do have a buddy that can help, I suggest asking him/her. When it comes to removing the old injectors and popping in the new ones, it will be much easier with 2 people.

Also, removing the rear engine lift bracket can be fun. I don't know what they use to tighten those things with, but have a cheater bar handy. I thought I was going to bust the head of the bolt off before it came loose.

All in all it was a fun project. For someone like myself, who is by no means mechanically inclined, it was a breeze.

And Shooter is right, the instructions provided with the DD's are excellent. Also, do a search on injectors and see what you come up with. There have been several posts on replacing injectors, with different ideas on improving or expanding on the process.

By the way, I see your just down the road in Reno. I'm up here in Alturas, 3 hrs away. We'll have to meet up sometime.

Good luck.

Are any special tools required for the 24v ETH, like an injector puller, etc. When Dr. P install his over priced stuff on my '95 (I was not a TDR member then so was none the wiser  ) they had to use an injector puller and still had a heck of a time getting a few out.

Any special tool??? Not really but 2 things are needed. First off, you may need to make some type of home made injector puller... . though I have seen several people just use the bolts off of the valve cover.

And the Second tool needed is the beer..... you can't forget the beer. . LMAO :D :D

The instructions provided will list all tools needed for the replacement. As far as pulling out the injectors, medium sized bent nosed pliers and one of the bolts from the intake, is what you use. Then just pry up. It's really quite easy. Once you do the first one, the rest will be a piece of cake. And as Kevin said, always have a cold supply of beer. That goes for any project. :D

Thanks for all the answers. I had heard that #6 could be a problem but it does not sound like it. According to Al at Piers Diesel he can do the whole thing in about 45 minutes. That should calculate to about 3 hours for this novice. Definitely can't forget the beer.

One last thing. MAKE SURE YOU PULL THE INJECTOR TUBES OUT OF THE INJECTOR SO THAT YOU DON'T DESTROY THEM.

I have heard of several occastion where people didn't pull the injector tube out of the injector and while pulling out the injector, damaged their tubes. You don' t have to pull the tube completely out, just enough to clear the injector.

If you follow the directions that come from DD to the letter you will not have any problems. I did my first set with out ever having even taken a valve cover off of any motor and now (after doing three or four changes) I can do it in an hour. Someone may have a digital copy of the instructions and maybe they could email them to you so you could review them before you get the injectors.

Instructions would be great, if anyone has them my e-mail is -- email address removed --. By the way NoCalH. O. PO I agree we'll have to get together. There are more TDR members floating around the area but I havn't met most of them face to face.
