How to sell pro tools#2

Cordless Tool Batteries

Im kinda emabarresed to ask so go easy on me. My dad was a machinist but since he worked at a factory he never had the opportunity to teach me... .

I just bought a logan model 850 lathe and the I think its called a tool post is missing (picture below). I need to go back to the sellers house and look for it. If I cant find it should I buy an original piece, there appear to be some on ebay, or should I buy one of the fancy aftermarket quick change do hickies???

Also if you are a machinist and would like to help me out please post up your offer. My dad sold off some of his tools but I still have boxes of stuff I know they are bit holders and other attachments for lathes and milling machines but have no idea what some of them do. I would like to post up some pictures and see if they can be identified. My dad handmade most of the pieces and I know it would of made him happy to see me using them

Thanks in advance

Ken

Ken,

I know you will get answers from many more qualified than I am, but we use a dovetail wedge (I don't know the catalog name right now) style tool holder that can be easily setup for centering and it has a lot of quick change tool holders that use various carbide bits, instant on and off, change angles, lots of pluses instead of the constantly recentering the cutter after any change on this type of holder.

Good luck.

Thanks. We found the original piece so I have something to start with and If I am able to get any use out of it I'll upgrade to one of them fancy ones. I think my dad may have actually made some up. So now that i can see what I got I can start figuring out some of the accesories I got.

Thanks

Ken

If you think the lathe was a lot of $$$ wait until you get an MSC,Enco etc catalog and start REALLY buying stuff. :-laf

Lathe was only $300... Interesting,to me, story behind it. I've been bringing some pieces to my fathers friend, for a friend, to be machined. Which got me thinking of the boxes of machinist tools and accessories I have from when my dad passed. So I decide to go on craigslist and take a peek. Well there is this lathe with a picture of it in a shed surrounded by vintage outboards and I am thinking Hmmmm. My old boss who taught me carpentry and suddenly had a fatal embolism a few years ago collected vintage out boards... I email the seller and he says someone is already coming to look at it and he will let me know later if its still for sale. 15 minutes later he emails me again saying I can come look at it if I get there before the other guy. I get an address, mapquest it and tell him I'll be there in a few minutes, since I know the area its a block away from my old bosses houses... Emailed me back he was selling off his dads stuff since they weren't using it and they need they could use the money. His mom, my old bosses wife, is having some medical problems now so I gave them asking price and will also be picking up a band saw(wood) and an old delta rockwell 3/h hp drill press.

Small world???

I need a mill/drill. I cant find one that I can afford.
Needs to be 1. 5-2 HP single phase. I have 220 wired in the garage/shop, so I can do with that too if needed... ...

Flagpoles and fittings

Been doing that for about 40 years. I dont claim to be a machinist but singlepoint threading is a real kick in the butt:-laf. Been upgrading from hand ground tools to full profile carbide threadding inserts. Big difference! GregH
