Hey Y'all:

What a great product! It is well made, good instructions, all parts received and easy to install. Roy and Jerry at Mag-Hytec are really helpful too. I added LE 607 gear lube per their recommendations.

I'd buy another one in a heartbeat and recommend it to everyone interested in adding an upgraded diff cover.

Happy trails,

Wiredawg

Does the Mag-Hytec work with a rear swaybar? I'm thinking of installing one but just wondered if there was enough clearance between the swaybar and the cover.

I am curious also. How does it do with the sway bar,I am concerened with the shimming of the bar as I haul a lot of weight at times.

1. LE607 was $9. 95/quart.
2. I only used one bottle of the friction modifier.
3. Shimming of the sway bar is not required on the 4x4 (mucho clearance).

Yep, it fit right on without any problems. I didn't even drop the spare. It held 7 qts and I put in two bottles of friction additive, per the instructions. I got 8 qts and 3ea 4oz bottles of friction modifyer for $106 and some change delivered to my door.

On a side note, I started to drop the spare, but it wouldn't raise or lower. Got an appt at DC on Fri to replace. Had a small funnel that held the bottles of gear oil upside down so I didn't have to hold them. Worked good.

Looks pretty darned good from the back. #ad

Wiredawg-

Glad to hear that you only got 7-quarts in yours. I even drained the axle tubes. I only used 1 bottle of the 3 of friction modifier, however. I did the usual figure-eights and there was no binding at all. I almost wished that I had tried it out without the modifier first.

Looks like I better check my spare.

I used Dana Axle Division Approved Shell Spirax S 80w140 GL5/MT1. Cost was $4. 50/qt plus the 2 bottles of OEM LSD modifier. Had to buy a 5gal pail of the Spirax S though.
Anyone in the Denver area want to buy 8 qts @ my cost???
I have rear lube for 1. 5 more changes!
Could be a long time before I get to use it.
BYQB (Bring Your Own Quart Bottle!)

Very impressed w/ the Mag-Hytec quality.

Guys, y'all know what?

I read the instructions and follow to the "T". Mag-Hytec instructions said to add 4 oz of modifyer to each 3 qts of lube. Well, I actually thought I was slighting it by "just" adding 8ozs. Did eight figure eights in local parking lot. I did not drink any beer during this operation just 'cause I wuz gonna be doing these figure eights in a public parking lot. Did get lots of strange looks though. #ad

I guess the real test will be when I ease one tire off the road and put the coals to it to see if I get LSD action. If I get any neg result, will post an #ad
input.

On to the next mod...

Wiredawg,
I also installed one of the Mag-Hytec covers on my truck this last weekend and it worked out exactly as you describe. Used 8 oz of friction modifier and 7 qts of LE-9920 Synthetic 75W-140. No chatter and seems to work fine. Bought the cover and lube at the last May Madness and just got around to installing it. They do look nice, don't they? :)

I also only added 1 bottle of the posi lube. Have 10k mi and no binding or chatter. LSD works fine, on a 5% grade one one side on glazed ice, in 2wd had no problems from dead stop with no tire spin on the tire on ice. No problems on mud or snow, works good.

note: if you get too much modifier the clutches will slip and then the LSD will not work!!!!!!!!!!

Frank:

It does look good. I swear, everytime I park it out in the south 40ty of the mall parking lot, I catch myself looking back at 2 or 3 times.
