I have been reading on this site for a while now as a guest and think this is one of the best message boards on the web! I am now glad to be a member so that I can "get in the game":D

In my signature you can see what I am starting with, an all stock (K&N Repl Filter doesn't count) 3/4 Ton. I am ready to do some additions to help me realize some of the torque and HP the Cummins is capable of..... Think I could get some help/opinions?

I am not trying to turn the truck into a race truck, I just want a very good running truck. I often pull a 6500# car trailer (loaded) and reliability is a must... ... Now that I have outlined what I am looking for and from what I have read as a guest, here is what I am thinking... ... .

First: GAUGES. I am going to order a 3-hole pillar pod, and install a boost gauge, EGT gauge, and post filter fuel gauge. I guess I will order from Geno's... . (tapped banjo bolts too. ) Hopefully this will not indicate I have a faulty lift pump.....

Future mods.....

Air flow mods (Scotty Air or the system from Jarnetty)

4" Jardine Exhaust

DD2's

Edge EZ

How does this sound? Suggestions or Comments?

Thanks for reading my post!

Sounds like you will be all :) :) :) :)

You may have to address the clutch in your truck with all this new found power, but I am an auto guy and don't pay much attention to what the clutch requirements are for the stick guys.

You might want to read

this thread if you have not already found it. It is about the best towing setup.

Good luck and welcome aboard

Thanks for reading my post! [/B]

Haney,

First off, welcome to the TDR! I've not been around long myself, but everything I've gotten off here has been extremely helpful.

I am in the same position you are, except I've already added a fuel/timing box. I went with the Edge Comp instead of the Edge EZ because of the flexibility later on. Also, it wasn't that much more $$ for what you get. Just a thought for you. It's not necessary to hook the Comp up to your fuel pump until you really want to get serious with it.

The gauges are a must... especially with the route you propose that involves injectors and such. Not only that, they're fun to watch.

Good luck and Happy BOMB'ing!

it all sounds good but i would save your money and not buy 4". if you want to do something with it just take your muffler out but leave in your resonator.

Haney, welcome aboard. Glad to have you. The setup you listed will absolutely ROCK!!!!!!!!! You can go a lot farther with the bombs, but you will have one heck of a stout truck with what you listed. It should satisfy you for a year or so:eek: :D  You may have to treat it nice in 4th and 5th to keep the clutch from slipping too, but there is only one way to find out. You have a solid plan, go for it!

Welcome to the Dark Side :D

Now remember what I'm telling you... ... ... ... ... . the power you will achieve "initially" will be enough. You may probably say something like "I'm happy with the power I have now" or "I don't think I need more power than I hve now". BUT you will soon be saying, " man, I should have gotten the Comp instead of the EZ" or "how much is nitrous", or "How much more can I get by installing an HX40?", you know, things of that nature.

The Dark Side is VERY CONTAGIOUS.

Enjoy your soon to be had noewfound power.

Thanks for all the welcomes..... Like I said, I am glad to be a member now and "off the sideline" so to speak... ... If you are a guest reading this thread, "COME ON IN, The water is great"!!!!!!

One thing I forgot to ask in my initial post is about the clutch... . Will I fry it with the EZ and DDII's?

I know I am beginning to toy with something addictive..... I have been hot-rodding V8 Mopars for about 15 years now and have never had one too fast or with enough power..... I guess I will use the same principal hotrodding my diesel as I do with my cars... ... go faster until the money runs out... ... . :D

Guys we almost had him, now you go and scare him off... ...

When I started all I was going to do was add 275 injectors and be happy. Look at me now... turbos, boxes, ss fuel lines, DD3 injectors... ...

How much is Nitrous anyway?? :D I was thinking Propane first. . Hehehehehe

JR2... ... seriously, from what I understand... ... ... . nitrous is the way to go... ... ... ... ... ..... but, I could be wrong.

I'll let you know in a few weeks... . heehee i'v got my plumbers pants on :D and I'm ready to go with my H2O/alky injection and NOS parts.

WELCOME..... Don't forget to look at the dual gauges available (i. e. Boost/EGT by Westach - see Geno's). That will leave one "A Pillar" hole available for some other gauge later... HAVE FUN... :D

welcome aboard... . your setup sounds great but the only i would recommend is to get ur exhaust setup early so when u start fixing up ur engine you wont have to worry about high egt's... enjoy

Brian, glad to see you back !!! How's it going out there ? Be safe Brother.

I, too, am considering the NOS kit in the spring, I think my head gasket is scared, real scared :D .

Check out Ted Jannetty's post "Proper order for upgrading ISB engines". Some very sound advice! You can also call him and he will be glad to talk to you.

Steve

I checked out Ted's list and it looks like I got pretty close with my "future mods" list...

Once I get the gauges, 4" exhaust and improved air flow, what is the best upgrade to do next. Injectors or a Box? Suggestions on which should be done first? I am leaning towards the box since it is a real easy install.....

JR2,

What exactly is a Moparguy Filter????

Thanks to all.

moparguy filter

Fleetguard AH19037; NAPA 2790, etc. fits the end of the air hose perfectly after removing the stock airbox. BIG MOTHER, ALSO KNOWN AS THE BHAF... ...

Haney-

Like Redneckdr said it is a big air filter that does not require oiling (like a K&N). It was discoverd by the member Moparguy and was for a while refered to as the Moparguy filter. Now commonly refered to as BHAF (Big Honking Air Filter). It is big and it sure does not look like it will fit when you pull it out of the box, but it does fit. I also have a mount for it made my another member (Mallory). If you are thinking of replacing the air box with a different filter I would suggest you take a look at the filter and mount. I had a pic of it and then my digital camera died and took the pic with it. I have a new camera coming and will put a pic in my sig when I get it.

Any five speed guys want to talk about the expected life span of his clutch with a box and injectors... ...

Hey Redneckdr what is and where did you get that sock on your filter. Was it something you made or bought?? I get some minor debris on my filter and a sock would help I think.

John

sock

jrdeuce... ...

i REALLY am a redneck dr--wornout orthopaedic surgeon type. the sock is 6 inch orthopaedic stockinette. i had some extra in the shop at home. it is just right to stretch over the BHAF. i've had it on the filter for about 3 or 4k miles. it still looks clean, and should extend the life of the BHAF. i had planned to spray it with water repellant, but never did. i've never found it wet anyway. after a long hard run on the interstate, not hot... ... . alan reagan is also testing the sock, and i think he likes it. he's using his with a mallory mount, also. :)
