41jay, check out this site www.dodgeram.org it should give you a good starting point to begin working on your truck. most all the info that you will need for quite a while is right there, from regular tune ups to power installs. this is where i started my quest for information a couple years back.

you know mjoppie i relly love that web site but i still can't find anything on how to take my fuel plate out. is it in the fuel pump or some where else? i did like all that smoke on the open page on www.dodgeram.org but i need a pitcher of the internal workings of the fuel pump and how to take the plate out i dun know how i'm going the grind the plate now i just have to find it. and about the 1/4 90 ellbow that web site was talking about what is it for and how does it work you know it comes off the manifold and hooks to wast gate i think i don't know i'm driving blind please help

41jay

send me a personal message with your address and I will send you a video showing you how to get to and change your cam plate. The elbow that is mentioned replaces a fitting on your AFC housing that controls the amount of turbo boost this is also shown on the video. The first thing people around here are going to tell you is get a Boost and EGT gauge before you do much if anything. I agree with this, you can hurt the engine with the mods you are reading about if you don't know what the Exhaust temp (EGT) is or the amount of Boost you are creating.

41jay, just go for it. i did it in 2hrs from start to test drive. im a 20yr old flooring contractor and dont know ***** bout metal work. being a welder this will be a walk in the park. unbolt the air intake to get to the pump. pull the bracket that holds the fuel lines together. take a punch to start the torx hole in the break off screw. then take a t15 torx bit, put it on the end of a 6" ratchet extention and pound it with a hammer. from there you can remove the screw and reuse it later. then pull the other 3 screws and pry back the fuel shut down sylenoid or whatever that silver thing is. then you can lift the afc housing and see the plate. mark where its at then pull it. there only 2 screws holding it. grind it down flat with the flat section of the plate. i left a toe like the pic to keep from blowin to much smoke. install in reverse. i placed it in the middle to save my clutch. max egt is 1200 petal on the floor in 5th with a 4000lb enclosed cargo trailer up a 5-6% grade. not bad for free.

fellow members please correct me where im wrong. forrest has done this to me a few times :)

whatever you do dont even think about doing this without gauges. that goes double if you pull anything. gauges are the best mod you can make if you want to keep that engine for a while.

41jay, look at genos garage, best prices anywhere! they are all backlit so just chose your style. pre turbo is the best way to go, its the most accurate. the only thing i would do different for installing the plate is use a impact driver on the tamperproof screw, you might need to start a little pilot hole. then replace it with a new allen head bolt, the tamperproof is kinda soft and doesnt take long to mar up. you can even leave it out for a bit to take it to the hardware to size it to a new one. just make sure to put the other three back in.

and definitly leave a toe on the tip, just for your sake, its smokey. some might not agree, but its a little easier to drive.

he's right about the smoke. even though i have the toe i had an s10 try to swerve around a cloud yesterday :D bought my gauges at genos. i paid about 250 with shipping. check there site. i used the tst instructions for the install. its probably best if you can locate a near by member who is willing to help. the gauges arent to bad but if you dont have good instructions it can really suck. good luck to ya man.

lets see anyone get this much hp out of a 24v for free. :D

buying my guages and pod today from genos just got the tax return back so haven fun I got a auto boost and an auto EGT guage that is all i need right? guages come with hard whare I think. My six inch stacks are comeing in in two weeks so thats next waiting for that tape from Jschafer If he sent it before messing with the plate besides every body told me to have guages first and thats a start I can't figure the priv. messg. out I don't know how to read them I think I sent one , not very comp. friendly I am. But learning the ropes and haveing fun at it when its done I'll get my sister to take a pic. w/ her didgital camera and show Ol Red off to all yall. Oo.

getten better a typing too! :D

just figured it out the message thing! thanks for sending it to me If you give me your address I will send it back affter I make a copy for me and all my friends that have cummins thanks again!

41,

some things to think about:

1. smart to do gauges first

2. learn how to use the search mode (example "gauge intsall" ) on this website cut and paste info into a word document and then print the info out to have while you are working on project. with the right tools and the confidence from this "search and print" method you can tackle almost anything on your truck.

3. you may know this already but when i just started i wanted more turbo noise si if you want to hear your turbo scream take out the silencer ring (snap ring with piece of tin that directs air into compressor (front) of the turbo), then afe filter with housing $225

4. then do 3gsks you wont believe the d/f these make with your gound plate slid forward (no more feeling of that huge gap b/t 3/4 or 4/5 shift)

i hope i did not insult your diesel knowledge but i assume you are a newbie so read until your eyes hurt there is alot to learn.

PS the 6spd 12v has a bad ars pump (913 pump aka 215 pump) you can make up to 500+ with some $$$ but more realistically you can get to 350 hp easy

CAT

DON'T WORRY YOU DID NOT INSULT MY DIESEL KNOW HOW B/C I HAVE NONE.

I'M JUST LEARNING ABOUT EVERY THING TWO WEEKS AGO I DID NOT EVEN KNOW WAT A WAIST GATE WAS AND NOW I HAVE ALITTLE IDEA OF HOW IT WORKS SO I'M HAPPY WITH ALL THE COSTRUCKTIVE CRITISSSSSSUM GIVE ME MORE I WOULD LIKE TO LEARN HOW TO ADJUST MY SELF THE WAIST GATE TO MY HOME GROUND FUEL PLATE WHEN I DOO IT. AND WHERE IS THE BEST SITE TO PERCHACE INJECTORS? OR IS THAT SOTHING I DON'T NEED TO WORRY ABOUT THANKS ALOT CAT NEED MORE TEACHING Oo.

41jay

The tape is on its way :) . You may want to see how your clutch holds up before you think about injectors, i am guessing the clutch will be your next investment. Glad you ordered gauges Have fun.

no caps i used to do that until someone told me to stop yelling

piers for injectors $300 and wastegate elbow $30 (lets you control boost), southbend for clutch $?.

Thanks Jschafer justhad a new stock clutch put in 4 days b/f i became a member. If i take it easy it should last until I can save up for a good one! So Sorry Cat started typen and got carryed away and did not Know it til I got done. $300 a pc or for all six

and how does that wastgate ell work just curious thanks again to the both ya

Price is for a set of six in a Cummins, each for a PSD, or more. Elbow restricts boost signal from afc and allows more boost to build.

Did mine today. MAN WHAT A DIFFERENCE!! I don't have much smoke though. If I pat the pedal it will puff pretty good but just taking off it just kinda hazes?? Turned the starwheel in several turns. Will it get to a stoping point? Can you go to far??

Got the tape

Oo. Oo. Got the tape yesterday , watched it until I fell asleep Thanks so much Jschafer I understand so much I know what the AFC housing and every thing I still don't have my guages yet but when I put them on I'll start messing whith my plate until then I have another question about the star wheel can I turn it all the way up before I even touch the plate or is that only foe adjustment. I'll send your tape back to you as soon as I make a dvd copy so I can pause it where I want too. Thanks so much again Jschafer! :D
