i finally joined tdr after a few months of being a guest. i looked off and on for a clean well maintained first gen 4x4 supercab for a few years and finally bought mine last april. i went to piers to have my kdp killed and met piers and pastor bob. helpful guys! bob, do you remember a black truck with a winch that looks like yours? it is unbombed so please have mercy on me. i am a sinner. i plan to get guages and a new steering shaft when needed. i would like to have more acceleration and more pulling power up steep hills like the snowshed hill on the coke. suggestions? i put on 4000 kms this summer with a small camper on the truck and averaged 19 mpg canadian. is that reasonable? aftermarket chrome rims- what fits this truck? is a afe air filter better than a kn filter?

i am laid up now with a broken kneecap and cant drive. i have taken the insurance off the truck but will be o. k. in a month or two. i have lots of time on my hands to brouse this site and will post pics after i buy a digital camera and can walk.

I didn't know there was an exchange rate for that, too - if it's anything like the money difference it's probably closer to 11 in US miles. :D;):-laf Actually, 19 MPG is pretty good with a camper - I've made two 3500+ mile trips with my small Palomino pop-up cabover and got a little over 15 MPG the first time, around 16. 5 MPG the second.

As far as steel wheels go, there are a lot of wheels that will "fit," but few that have sufficient weight ratings for our trucks. The only ones I've seen so far are the Cragar "Soft 8" wheels, and the ones from Stockton wheels. I'll probably end up with Eagle Alloy 55's, which are only a few bucks more than the Cragars... and less than Stockton's wheels. ;)

Not sure about the filter - I won't run a K&N on anything after seeing how much dust the one on my Jeep allowed through. I'm just using a paper BHAF and plan on adding an Outerwears pre-filter at the next change.

Welcome to TDR. :)

Welcome to the TDR.

The gages are the first thing you need to do before anything else. If you don't know what your EGT's are doing. You can melt an engine.

If you read the sticky's at the top of this forum. They cover all levels of performance. The only limiting factor is the check book. :(

Welcome to the jungle DB

Phil's right on the mark - gauges are a must to get a good baseline befor the mods begin. I recommend oil pressure and water temp on top of the standard pyro, boost, and trans temp (if an auto, not essential if a stick). I just like actual numbers, and there are lots of options for dash pods and gauges. Scan the readers rigs and you'll see a bunch - I have some good shots of a decent (modified) Autometer setup...

And above all else, ask any question you can think of - the TDR is hands-down the best forum of its kind.

Don,

Welcome to the TDR. The US gallon is approx 83% as large as the imperial gallon. Your 19 mpg (imp) translates into approx. 15. 75 mpg (us). By the way both Piers and Bob will give you excellent advice.

Well... yes I do remember and if you look out your window real late one night and see a guy or two with flashlights it ok... they're either tweaking your truck or borrowing something you don't need at the moment ..... ;);):D:D

Phew... I was gonna be really jealous if he got 19 MPG with the camper loaded. :{ :D

Welcome to the asylum... go to Pastor Bob's office; he'll hook you up with some new fabric Oo. Lol.

Enjoy, and congratulations on some of the best $ you have ever spent (both on your truck and on this forum ) :)
